Changing Infrastructures of India Effects of Globalization and New Technologies 3/24 Introduction The current progress of India hasled to an infrastructure boom and wide development within the economic and business system of the area. This has allowed the country to begin altering the way in which the businesses are set up as well as what opportunities are provided in business. The two influences that have created a change are based on the movement into globalization as well as the ability to access more technology. These have both pushed the infrastructure into new development and have provided new opportunities within the country. Understanding both the developments and the limitations of this current development also provides a new understanding to what is occurring within the country. Definition of Terms The concept of globalization is one that is currently being defined and which is showing a different process toward economics and business development. Globalization is defined as a newer force that is opening businesses into new regions of the world. This is driven by services and products that are imported and exported and which are able to provide a new reality to businesses. Most specifically, the globalization of different businesses is able to offer consumer products on a new scale toward others. The new technologies that are combined with this include possibilities for importing and exporting at a different level. Most specifically, this uses the Internet and e-commerce portals that are able to market and sell different products. New technologies are also linked to the internal process of an organization and includes the development of new processes for manufacturing, all which allow the company to have a specific organizational method for producing and selling different products or services (Aliber, Click, 1993, 249). Variable 1 - Globalization in India The movement toward globalization as well as the new technologies is one that is presenting both opportunity and complications within the region. In the first article, there is an understanding that the globalization in India is also creating a sense of vulnerability within the region. Specifically, the regions of India are changing with economics and the ability for smaller businesses to produce and compete with the globalized corporations. The economic change for business is one that is affecting both small and large businesses, specifically because of the swift movement into technology and globalization. This is creating global stressors for the region and is causing many to alter the climate changes available. However, while the globalization and the other concepts related to the Indian climate are continuing to change at a rapid rate, most have found that there is no proper methodology to determine how this is affecting the infrastructure of different businesses as well as the economic conditions that are in different regions (O’Brien et al, 2004). This is creating a strong sense of vulnerability within the region and is creating a limit of resources and understanding in terms of the changes that are continuing to approach the area. Not only has the economic changes altered because of globalization, but the development and focus on businesses has also begun to alter. In the second article, there is a focus on how the changes have occurred within the Indian climate. Specifically, there is a statement on the access to different resources, such as science and technology. As the demands grow on a worldwide level, so does the need to create a different research and development department and to have new resources available. There is also the need for the infrastructure to create new skills and knowledge to countries, specifically to initiate a new level of development for the demands of different companies (Reddy, 1997). Both of the articles that focus on the changes in globalization in India notice that there are several alterations that are occurring because of globalization. This is creating opportunity with globalization, as well as some restraints because of the developing country. The infrastructure that is responding to this is based on creating and innovating different types of opportunities for those that are in business. Both of the articles note that there are global stressors that are changing the methodologies within a business which is creating a response within the economy. The strength of both of these articles is the recognition on how the concept of globalization in India is changing different factors, such as the economy and the functioning of companies. However, both also focus on different stressors from globalization that is changing this, as opposed to offering a bigger picture of the changing environment. Variable 2 – New Technologies A second underlying factor related to the complications of globalization and new technologies in India is based on the changes of the economy and contributions that are being made. The Indian economy has found that the infrastructure is being influenced with new technology not only with the boom that is occurring. At the same time, the businesses are required to make adjustments within the region while creating an occupation of different businesses and economic means. This is creating an increase in competition, specifically because the competition is at a global level as opposed to one that is regional in nature. This is combined with complications that have been found with regional industries, liberalization for small – scale industries and changes in performance. Many of the businesses are moving into larger performance areas, specifically in terms of employment, manufacturing processes and means for export. This is providing new economic means and substantial growth within the different regions of India (Subrahmanya, 2005). While the newer technologies in India are helping to provide more opportunities and liberalization, there are also setbacks that are a part of this. The main difficulty that many are having with the developments in India is based on the development of the economy. The businesses that are in this region do not have as many resources or developed monetary means to get the newer technologies for higher production. This creates a lack with the technological availability and has created more demands and a lack of return for technology companies. More specifically, there are complications with innovation systems available at a national level because of the smaller enterprises. This has created an infrastructure that is imbalanced, partially because it demands more work from employees to keep up with technology and because there are not enough newer technologies to assist various companies for the right amount of production (Sivamohan, 2001). The focus of both of the articles show how the new technologies are changing the way that business is approached, as well as the functions within the infrastructure. The difference between both is on the tone of the article, as well as the belief of whether this is providing opportunity or creating limitations within the business. The first article notes that this is altering the climate and the way that different things function. However, the second article shows that the idea of new technology is limited with the resources not having the right opportunity for a developing country. The strength with both articles shows that the concept of technology is able to create a new demand and process with businesses and for those with a specific infrastructure. However, the articles don’t show the larger picture and environment of the new technologies and how this is creating both opportunities and limitations. The analysis of new technologies and how they are changing the infrastructure in India is limited by the idea of opportunity and the understanding of what limitations are available. Critical Analysis All four of the articles used create a different understanding and meaning to globalization and new technologies. After reading these articles, one is able to understand the several complications of working within a third world country and how this alters because of the surrounding environment. While the main component with these articles was based on the infrastructure, there was also an understanding that it is the external environment, pressures from globalization and available economic means with technology that is altering the capabilities within business. The main viewpoint that can be taken with each of the articles is based on a deeper understanding of how India is opening to globalization and new technologies; however, the infrastructure and functioning of businesses is now being pressured to change because of it. More importantly, this is bringing new limitations and complications to the businesses that are within this industry. Conclusion The different concepts that are applied to the infrastructure in Indian business is one that is seeing a quick change in the economy and business development of the area. While these regions are able to create a specific approach and understanding to what is occurring, there are also noted limitations by both authors. This includes inability to focus on opportunities from the economic changes as well as changes and adjustments that are being made toward the overall functioning of business, specifically because of the competition and newer complications with globalization and the new technologies.
