Problem solution argument Introduction Our beautiful earth since its origination has been a ‘hotbed’ of activity. Activity in the sense, we humans has been involved in various activities, utilizing our physical as well as mental part. The activities only caused tremendous transformations, transforming our globe from a primitive one to a developed one. But, one can see that these activities not only resulted in development, but have also caused destructions to our earth. That is, in his/her quest to achieve advancement, humans have invented or inventing many tools. The same tools are used as life damaging tools, damaging human lives and importantly the earth’s environment, which sustain the human lives and other lives including animals. This paper will discuss one of those threatening phenomenon, Global warming by focusing on the problems it causes to the Polar Bears, decreasing their population and even leading to their extinction. Importantly this paper by looking at ways to minimize the negative repercussions of global warming will also provide solutions to this problem, thereby focusing on how to save the species of Polar Bear. Problem Our Globe gets warmed or the climate gets changed due to various processes that take place inside and outside the earth like the earth’s rotation on its orbit, flow of air currents, rays from the sun etc. But, after the industrialization has set in, earth got even warmer or hotter due to artificial factors. One of the artificial factors and a byproduct of industrialization, which is the chief culprit of Global warming, are greenhouse gases. Most of the scientific researches prove this fact about greenhouse gases because global warming had peaked as a phenomenon in the last 50 years going ‘hand-in-hand’ with the industrialization and development, which is taking place in most of the countries of the world, particularly the western countries. Due to this global warming and raise in temperatures, glaciers in various parts of the world have disappeared due to the excessive melting that happens even in normal cold months. The icy landmasses like the Arctic and the Antarctica are also ‘feeling’ the heat of global warming. The damages to the glaciers are wrecking all the lives in these regions, quite prominently the polar bears. The continued rising of temperatures and the resultant melting of icy landmass in the Arctic have affected Polar Bears to a great extent endangering them. That is, there are an estimated 20,000 Polar Bears in the open and all of them need the Arctic weather and landmass to survive. But, with the weather becoming warmer and the landmass melting away, Polar bears’ living surface has been greatly reduced. “In fact, polar bears have been photographed clinging to tiny ice formations as their natural environment simply melts away, leaving them at the mercy of a climate that they cannot survive in” (bearplanet.org). Also, with the land surface severely reduced, Polar Bears are forced to swim for longer distances to search for nearby landmasses and also to catch their food, seal. Polar Bears can swim for only short distances and are mainly adapted to hunt on ice, and so when they are forced to swim for long distances, they become tired and get drowned. “If they try to swim in disappearing ice conditions to catch seals, more are likely to tire and drown, scientists say” (Carlton). So, these serious problems caused by global warming and the resultant melting could make Polar bears, a unique and beautiful species an extinct one. This worst case scenario has to be avoided by formulating and implementing solutions that counters the threatening phenomenon global warming. Even though global warming, as the word suggests, is a global phenomenon caused by factors arising all over the world, if all these factors are corrected or its repercussions minimized, it will have positive impact on the Polar Bears. That is, Polar Bears are not affected due to any direct actions carried out on the Arctic region, but actually due to actions carried all over the world. So, if each of the below solutions are implemented, it will do a world of good for the Polar Bears. Solutions The first and the main solution that will minimize global warming and provide great benefits to the Polar bears (and also to every life on this planet) is the implementation of freeze in the construction of any greenhouse gas emitting industries. Even though, there is no chance of any greenhouse emitting industry in Polar Bear territory, its presence elsewhere is having a direct impact on the Polar Bears. Although, all the currently existing industries, which contribute to global warming, cannot be closed, as it provides livelihood for money, the high emitters should be indefinitely closed. And in the case of new industries, unless there is some kind of mechanism to curtail the emission and block it from coming out of the outlet, no permission should be given to open them. So, if the people working in the government offices close down industries, who are emitting above normal levels of greenhouse gases, it will bring down global warming very much, stop melting in the Arctic and save the Polar Bears. The other important solution is, people should start using energy efficient and renewable energy technologies. This will reduce the dependence on carbon dioxide emitting fuels and other energies. As said earlier, Arctic region is not a place, where Co2 is emitted. The usage of oil and coal energy all over the world is only emitting CO2 and contributing to the global warming. So, vehicles, buildings, industries should start use cleaner energies like LNG, solar power based technology, Wind power, hydrogen fuel cells, etc. Even though it will be a difficult task to get rid of non-renewable energies from the face of the earth and instead make people use safer renewable energies. It can be done in phase-by-phase manner. If it catches up, with the government support and more people become users of this concept, it will lead to cleaner surrounding and good environment for all the lives including Polar Bear. So, the damage to Polar Bears can be prevented to a good extent, if the exit of carbon dioxide is minimized by using various other forms of fuels. “Due to the rapid pace of change in the Arctic, there is no time to lose in reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, WWF argues. The group says major reductions can be achieved by using existing technologies to increase the energy efficiency of homes, businesses and automobiles, and by using renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels” (ens-newswire.com). So, these solutions will play a crucial role in reducing global warming and thereby help Polar Bear to survive in coming centuries as well. In a quest to reach an exalted or a dubious status, humans are putting their home of earth under severe damage, strain, pressure, etc through the phenomenon of Global warming. This constant damage caused by the greenhouse gases will stay for a longer time with repercussions affecting every form of life including the endangered Polar Bears. So, eradication of global warming is the key. If this global warming and its extensive but preventable damages are eradicated or even minimized, the world of tomorrow will be a better and safer place for all including the Polar Bears. Among the various species that live in the Arctic landscape, Polar Bears are one of the most sturdy and adaptable species. But, even these sturdy creatures were not able to withstand the vagaries of the global warming. So, eradication or minimization of global warming through above mentioned solutions will be a major panacea for the Polar Bears. Works Cited bearplanet.org.
