Recycling Introduction Recycling is the step which involves the process of materials after collecting discarded materials and turning in to new products. The amount of wastes that are being disposed in the dustbins can be reduced with the help of recycling. The reduction of waste helps to make environment cleaner and makes air fresh to breathe. Wastes that are been disposed are mainly produced from home, businesses and industries with the exception of other hazardous wastes. In the recent decades, there has been a sense of awareness and increase in interest on environment in many countries. The current global warming issue has created awareness among people which leads to air, water pollution and decrease of one-use resources. The lessening of number of one-use resources empowered countries to combat the problem by use of more renewable resources that can be recycled. The ethical benefit of recycling outweighs its negativity. The cost of land filling, incineration and collection of waste are much higher than that of recycling processes. The environmental effects are the disposal of waste can cost billions of dollars for municipal. But the implementation of recycling can help to deal with the issue. This essay will discuss about the optimum use of recycling for a possibility to reduce the environmental issues ethically. Analysis The reduction of waste stream and demand of waste is the process of recycling. The emission of all waste streams and minimizing the utilization of resources are the purposes of recycling. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the solid wastes that are been recycled in America are only 30%. The implication of recycling can create huge impact on environmental and economic issue of a country. Environmental Protection Agency sates that the recycling process on paper can benefit environment. The water pollution can drop to 35% and air pollution can drop to 74% due to the implementation of recycling. Due to the increase in population, it became a beneficiary factor for every organization take the responsibility of recycling. There are several organizations that have implemented recycling to reduce the environmental issue to maintain ethics in workplace. PEPSICO is one of the global multinational organizations that has benefited from recycling. PEPSICO is one of the largest beverage and food multinational company in America. The importance of social responsibility cannot be ignored by any company. The main goal of PEPSICO is to reduce its impact on environment with many initiatives such as energy, water, recycling. Several initiatives include the increase of the recycling of packaging, increase in post-industrial packaging recycling for production. A convenient solution has been implemented by PEPSICO in the US to capture plastic and recycle it to manufacture bottles. More than 5,000 recycle systems have been installed in many parts of North America. From the year 2010, around 196 million beverage containers have been recycled by recycling systems. Some unique brand such as Burton uses recycled plastic bottles to create fabrics. All collection of products such as t-shirts by Burton has been manufactures by 50 percent of organic cotton and recycling of plastic bottles. T-shirts were launched in the year 2011. In year 2013, new style of apparel and outwear has been made by recycling of plastic bottles. Special initiative has been taken with the partnership of CEMPRE for recycling and increase the income of waste takers. 260 company-owned manufacturing companies have used more than 91.2 of solid waste for recycling. The main aim of PEPSICO is to maintain environment sustainability by minimizing the amount of packaging waste and increasing the amount of waste that are needed to be recycled. PEPSICO promotes recycling by partnering with communities and governments. PEPSICO implemented water recycling to develop products by using water and products are reused again. The waste garbage is no longer send to the landfills from the manufacturing facilitates of PEPSICO. The amount of waste that are been send to landfills are reduced to 45 percent. The dream machine, PepsiCo foundation and Pepsi We Inspire campaign helped to demonstrate the maintenance of environmental sustainability by this effort of outreaching communities. Several initiatives have been taken by Coca-Cola Company by planning to build recycle plant of plastic bottle for $44 million. The recycling of old plastic bottle into new bottle will be done in 30-acre of plant. It is expected in the year 2008, around 100 million polyethylene terephthalate plastic should be recycled in every year. In the year 2007, it has been planned in the United States to open nine centralized recycling centralized recycling centres. In the city of Philadelphia and New Jersey, $6 million curb-side recycling programs have been allotted by Coca-Cola. The image of Coca-Cola Company was modified to make it green by the introduction of several programs. Some other recycling programs that are been initiated by Coca Cola Company is Nigeria PET recycling, future Centre Trust and Recycling for the future. Coca Cola Company collaborated with Alkem Nigeria Limited to recycle used PET bottles. the amount of recycle products that are been generated from the programs initiated by Coca Cola Company is 135 tons to 6,300 tons of bottles from the year 2005 to 2012. The products that are been recycled now only helped to maintain environment sustainability but also helped to create jobs for 1,600 people. Another programs initiated by Coca Cola Company is Future Centre Trust which helped to build recycling based centres. The implementation of Future Centre Trust project helped local communities for raising awareness among the people due to the impact of climate change in the community. This project helped public to provide knowledge and education about the benefits of recycling and methods to implement it. The project encouraged public to know the importance recycling to make recycled beverage containers. Coca Cola Company in Norway invests heavily on recycling by knowing the importance of it and had planned to expand the recycling infrastructure. Tesco and Coca Cola Company joined to create awareness among the people about the use of recycling at homes. Coca Cola Company has begun to study about the household garbage in France and Great Britain to increase the rate of recycling at household products. Coca Cola Enterprise partnered with Sainsbury created a campaign that can help to encourage and motivate consumers to use bottles in a way that is useful. Campaign initiated by Coca Cola Enterprise and Sainsbury encouraged parents to easily signup which them to learn the creative way of implementing plastic bottles in a useful way. The aim of the campaign is to teach the importance of beverage containers recycling (Davis, 1992). DHL implemented recycling to reduce the amount of waste and reduction of costs and carbon footprints. The volume of recycling has been increased by 15% in the year 2010.due to the introduction of increase in recycling enables DHL to save 690 tons of carbon emission. The main aim of DHL is to drive towards the zero landfill and increase the use of recycling in every item. Ford Motor Company has also implemented recycling effectively. By the partnership with REPREVE ensured that amount of plastic bottles dumped in to the landfills are diverted. The recovery program of Ford enables to divert various parts of car from landfills by the collaboration with REPREVE. The electric model program by Ford Focus can be helped by the fabrics that are created from the bottles that are been recycled in REPREVE. The introduction of Ford Fusion by Ford Motor Company resembles the importance of recycling which is made by recycled material (Hutchinson, 2013). The recycled program initiated by Ford helps to 1.5 million yards of fabric can be collected each year. The initiative taken by Ford to reduce the usage of water by 30% and car seats should be made of recycled plastic bottles which would help to step up to nullify the environmental issues and make it sustainable ethically. Discussion The benefit of recycling on company and environment is enormous. It creates significant advantage on environmental and economic of a society ethically. It can help to provide significant positive impact of economy of a country, creates jobs, saves lot of energy and supply raw materials that are been taken from garbage to the industry. PEPSICO, Coca Cola, Ford, and DHL are the companies had gained competitive advantage due to the implementation of recycling to maintain environmental sustainability and economic development. Recycling program initiated by PEPSICO, Coca Cola, Ford, and DHL helped to create jobs. Survey states that around 1.1 million of people can be employed from 58,000 establishments of recycle industries. The annual revenue that is being generated is gross over $236 billion. Recycling helps to growing. In the year 2011, it has been estimated that the tax revenue generated from recycling is $12.9 billion. Every recycling processes helps to save energy but it can vary by material. Aluminium cans that are been recycled can save about 96 percentage of energy. The energy which is saved can help to make same amount of aluminium. Each can which are been recycled can help to provide energy for three hours to run a computer (McKinney, 2012). The broken glasses helps o reduce the energy to the furnace of a glass industry. The each amount of aluminium which is recovered can help to save energy in America. The energy saved can help to generate electricity of 7.5 kilowatt. Recycling can also help to save number of tress. 1 ton of recycled paper can help to save about 19 trees. Recycled paper enables to consume 7 percent less energy to make new paper that that of from trees (Carroll, 1997). The greenhouse gas emission can be reduced by the implementation of recycling. Evidence states that the emission of greenhouse gases has been increased due to the faster warming of the earth’s surface which is mainly created by activities of humans. The increase of greenhouse gas resulted in to the alteration of chemical composition which can create significant impact on the environmental changes and issues. Greenhouse gas can bring huge impact on the global warming (Ferrell and Fraedrich, 2014). The changes bought due to the global warming can make water resources, coastal areas, agriculture and forests vulnerable. But the recycling project has created huge positive impact by decease in methane emission, carbon sequestration in forest and saving energy (Stem, 1994). These issues can create huge impact on environment, but recycling can help to avoid it ethically. The large amount of carbon emission can be reduced which is 48 million metric tons. Recycling can also help to create more natural resources for future. The wastes that are being generated can be reduced by recycling and it can not only help to keep valuable resources and also reduce disposal costs. Some of the hidden costs that can affect an organization are poor public image, degradation of guest amenity and loss of space of the floor. Environmentally it can be damaging when some of scrap materials that are been recovered from metal ores, oil, trees and minerals which are been recycled can cause the reduction of the expansion of mining and forestry. The more metals and fossil fuels are vital for the future generation. As these are all non-renewable resources. Recycling can help to reduce the extraction of these valuable non-renewable resources and create huge ethical impact on the environment and society for future. Conclusion This research paper involves the ethical implementation of recycling to reduce the environmental issues. The execution of recycling has created a substantial input towards the improvement of environment. The greatest benefit of recycling is to reduce the greenhouse emission, water savings, conserving natural resources, saving energy and costs. The operating cost of recycling programs is less and it helps to create millions of job openings. It can also help to prevent the pollution to make new product. Raw materials that are been used to manufacture new products is now being much lesser in energy intensive and much cleaner. The disposal of garbage can affect the environment and increase the cost. The amount of natural resources that are required to make new products can be reduced by the use of recycling. All the beneficiary materials, mining and extraction can be reduced as this are the important natural habitats for wildlife animals. Recycling can help to maintain the environmental sustainability which are social equity, economic and environmental resilience and maintain ethics in the society and organization.
