What are the major contrasts and comparisons from farm to seaside living Living in the farm or the seaside are two environments that have distinguishing factors. If we are to compare both environments, they have different rich opportunities. According to Berman Esther, living at the farm was purely filled with big and tall trees. The seaside was so much different because all that they could see was the seaside at their doorstep. Another contrasting feature of farm to sea side living is the sea food.

According to Berman, she explains that the fresh sea air adds a twist of richness and originality to the food. This is totally different as compared to farm side delicacies. The third contrasting feature according to Berman was the culture. She states that the language is probably the same, except that a few words have a distinguishing accent. Berman goes ahead to add, ‘England for example has a rigid class culture that one does not violate without consequences’. This can be better explained that people in England observe culture more seriously as compared to people in America.

The new culture that Berman was exposed to was different and by all means, she had to be well accustomed to it especially knowing that her grandmother was from England. Along with that, the sea side was different with the farm side due to the swimming experience that one was prone to endure while there. Back at the farm, there was no swimming experience in the form of leisure. According to Berman, the farm was hectic. She describes that they used to work extremely hard but little income. According to her statement, the work at the farm involved picking berries, feeding the pigs which apparently ate a lot and were still not adding kilos, the chicken that were there also did not lay eggs, the cows did not produce much milk so the income we got at the farm was quite low.

Life at the sea side was quite different. There was not much work to be done that involved farm animals. Thus Berman presumed life at the sea side was more appealing as compared to the farm life. A comparison between the two environments is the existence of school children. According to Berman, “the sea and country will lose their prominence to the hustle and bustle of school”. This means that both the sea side life and farm side life have the similarity where school children are existent in both environments.

Another comparison between bot lives is the fact that they had to work to get income. That is at the farm they had to work to get some income so was the case at the sea side. Assignment Two Compare the West to the East. Write a daily journal of the event. Being born in the USA, I think is the best thing because everybody wants to come to the States to make their dreams come true. Well, I was born in the USA and I have lived there with my parents for close to seven years. After my seventh birthday, a lot happened to my family.

My parents divorced and that is when mother thought that we should go to stay with my grandmother in England. I had already gotten used to the States and the thought of moving was not much of a deal. Today marks the day my siblings and I move to England. It’s a foreign land and I do not know what to expect. I have never been there and I have no clue of what to do once there. Although I know that my grandmother is going to take good care of us while we are there. I hear England is beautiful but I do not know much about it.

This is the first time I am going to meet my grandmother as a young child. Last time she came to America was when I was a year old and I do not remember much about that. All in all, I am excited. My siblings and I arrived in England safely and as an American my experience is that I feel like a stranger in a foreign land. My American accent is different and I know it is very much recognizable. I believe that I will fit in time into the new environment. Today is my first day at school, as a new face in the class; I think that my classmates will definitely recognize that I am from a foreign country.

My name will definitely be the first indicator. I am used to doing chores in America, but here in England, grandmother likes to do most of the chores. If it were home, mother would expect me to take care of everything that she asks me to do so. Our house in America cannot be compared to this one in England because this one in England does not have a lot of drawers. Again my beddings and those of my siblings lay on the floor mostly. So there is nothing much to clean but mother insists on cleanliness.

Last time she got really mad when she found the house was not clean and she yelled a lot to us for that. I am planning not to do a repeat because the yelling from mother is not good. I still have the passion to do my French lessons. For the least, it is the same as compared to America. French is great. Seven years it has been. England was awesome although I feel like I will get a culture shock once I go back home to America. I might as well be like an outsider in my homeland. The two lives I have lived are a contrast of each other.

As for my siblings, Tommy and Penelope I have realized that they do not remember much about home. I feel that they might as well adopt to the environment faster that I will do.
