This emitted carbon dioxide does not allow the heat to be released into the higher layer of the atmosphere resulting in the entire earth been warmed up. This contributes to changes in the weather leading to catastrophic events, the outcome of which is a loss of lives and property. External respiration, also known as breathing, is the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide involving an animal and its environment. Exchange of gases amongst the environment and an animal takes place because of diffusion. Diffusion is the random movement of particles and induces the movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. Hence, oxygen is taken in, as its intensity is lesser inside than in the environment, while carbon dioxide because of its higher concentration inside gets out into the environment. Thus, respiration results in releasing of more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which induces pollution. The movement of carbon, in its several forms, involving the atmosphere, oceans, biosphere, and geosphere is known as the carbon cycle. Biology plays a key role in the apparent movement of carbon between land, ocean, and atmosphere through the processes of photosynthesis and respiration. The metabolic break up of sugars, known as respiration, is to develop into energy which is required for movement, growth, and procreation. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

Effects of Global warming

...to the abnormal emission of green house gases which are resulting in global warming, finally leading to abrupt fluctuations in the climatic condition. The human civilization on its way to development has been transformed from an agricultural economy to an industrial economy (Read 33). No doubt that this transformation has increased the per capita income as well as livelihood of the human beings, however it is also associated with a cost namely ‘green house gas initiated global warming’. The paper attempts to explore the causes, impact and probable solutions of global warming. What are the green house gases? Earth’s atmosphere comprises...

Global Warming Effects on Population

... Global warming has been one of the most important topics of discussion in scientific and policy circles for decades now. Despite relative scientific consensus on the fact that global warming is happening, there are still many logjams towards actually getting anything done on the topic. One of the major consequences of such inaction is that the effects of climate change are poorly understood: we understand that there likely will be long term effects, but are unable to describe exactly what form those effects might take. One of the biggest misconceptions about climate change is its causes and possible...

...?Global Warming Effects Human Health Introduction Studies have revealed that global warming is a big challenge for humankind and it will have an impact on human health throughout the world. Commencing from reduced air quality and dreadful conditions of food and water to growing amounts of allergens and disastrous weather events, are the various deteriorating health threats one is going to experience during his lifespans. This situation can be avoided by taking vital action by nations to address global warming through compulsory legislation that decreases global warming...

...of such destructive events, with widespread damages that include loss of human lives. Though progress in mitigating the effects of global warming is ongoing at the international, state, and local levels, the efforts are non-commensurate with anthropogenic GHGs emissions, which according to the current projections will increase indefinitely in the future. Among the measures taken to curb global warming is Emissions Taxation, the levying of fees on every tonne of greenhouse gas emitted into the atmosphere. This method of cutting down GHGs into atmosphere is not only cost- effective, but environmentally friendly, with best...

Climate change and adaptation and mitigation

...Topics: Climate change and adaptation and mitigation Question one The effects of climate change on the environment and humanity are numerous and diverse. The key effect is the increase of global average temperature (Smith & Tirpak, 1988). This is the basis of a number of secondary effects that include rising sea levels, changing agricultural patterns, changes in precipitation patterns increases, increasing severe weather occurrences, growth of a series of tropical diseases, reduction of the ozone layer, opening of new trade paths and ocean ph. becomes low (Hardy, 2003). Over the last century, atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide...

The Effects of Global Warming

...The Effects of Global Warming The issue of global warming poses damaging effects that could threaten not only the sustainability of the environment but also all aspects of human life. One of the most common effects of global warming can be observed in the rapid changes of the environment. For instance, the intense heat of the Earth’s atmosphere has resulted to the rise of sea levels, changes in rainfall patterns and frequency of severe weather conditions. Droughts, floods, air and water pollution, as well as the occurrence of natural disasters (e.g. typhoons, hurricanes, tsunamis), have...

...retreat almost everywhere around the globe also indicates the extent to which the earth is warming. Glacial retreat is evident in the Alps, Himalayas, Alaska and Africa. Since global warming is already happening, the best solutions to solving the problem would be mitigation and adaptation. Carbon sequestration is gaining support among many scientists and policy makers as a possible mitigation method. However, its effectiveness remains uncertain particularly due to concerns over leakage into the ocean and the environment. According to Shaffer (2010), carbon sequestration can help reduce global...

Global Warming: Cause and Mitigation

...Global Warming Global warming as a phenomenon continues receiving international attention, increasingly because of its causal-association with diverse environmental aspects, disasters and negative influences on habitats. Accordingly, this has necessitated the detailed evaluation of both the human role-play, and scientific basis of the phenomenon. Climate change as evidence portrays, is already transforming life on earth. This has been in terms of shifting of seasons, increases in temperatures and rising sea levels. The combined effects of this phenomenon are potentially catastrophic, directly linked to great economic loss, increased human and wildlife...
