Other celebrities also did not have many nice words for this fallen bedmate. Zooey Deschanel said on Twitter, “MYSTERY SOLVED: now we know who the “half a man” is in “two and a half men.”…HINT: it’s not the kid!!!!” (Deschanel). Denis Leary was less judgmental when he said, “Is it just me or is Charlie Sheen starting to sound a lot like Moammar Kaddafi?” (Leary). The ego of Sheen was becoming intolerable for even the less controversial co-stars as Giuliana Rancic said, “How crazy is that Charlie Sheen rant?
Have u noticed he loves saying ‘winning?’” (Rancic).Sarah Silverman came up with, “If I hung out w 20 year old porn stars all the time time I’d think I was a genius too.” (Silverman). But Pierce Morgan took the side of Sheen and exclaimed, “Is it just me that thinks Charlie Sheen be allowed to behave how the hell he likes in his own time?” (Morgan). All these celebrity tweets goes round and round about the key issue without paying attention to it - whether a celebrity is obliged to stick to the social behavior expected from an ordinary citizen.
This is the matter, which Sheen has been en-cashing upon. He has been breaking all social taboos with his attitude. But slowly he began to copy those attitudes in his actions as well, which was simply dangerous and disastrous. Again, this kind of behavior and belief is closely associated with the hyper ego that a celebrity gets used to, when there are so many people out there adoring you and eager to know about you. Charlie Sheen was not different and of course he might have been able to survive and even fare well with that, provided he knew his limits.
To have an attitude is something and to act based on that attitude is some thing else. For example, one can. Charlie Sheen is the ultimate victim of our society- our self-projections into unattainable heroism and our jealousy for others’ success. His example shows how powerless a person can become even amidst money, fame and recognition. The media and the society might have benefited themselves by ignoring the private matters of Charlie Sheen, at least for a period of time and Charlie Sheen might also have been a co-beneficiary to that.
But nothing is no more private for a new world updated in seconds, by the new social media like Twitter and Facebook. The tweets are flying every second. But can anybody afford to read all the two million tweets he gets? This is the point at which information turns into junk. And it is in this context that the new media looses its power and just remain highly perishable. Though this short-lived information and communication phenomenon played a great role in the downfall of Charlie Sheen, it is yet to be seen how it will impact the career of Charlie Sheen as an actor and a performer.
In the case of Charlie making a bouncing reappearance on television screen in yet another successful show, all the negative readings will fade into air and we will see the macho “winning” once again.
