Develop a New Professional Position for a Master’s Prepared Nurse Each job, function or service oriented company is mandated to have a group of people tasked to look after quality assurance management. Often co-existing with the training team, the team in charge of quality assurance has to always be updated with the latest trends and studies in their field of expertise. They are sent to educational and training programs, tasked to write academic journals to come up with guidelines on the topics expected of them. This is to enable them to perform the duties required of them. Quality assurance basically is the job of evaluating the quality of care and ensuring constant and unceasing quality level of such are (Quality Assurance in Nursing Care: Structure and Process of Nursing Care. 2011). It means keeping at par with the standards set by a higher body, and consequently providing only the most excellent health care for the patients. According to Agnes Jacquerye’s journal Quality Assurance in Nursing Care: Structure and Process of Nursing Care, there are successive steps to successful evaluation: (1) elaborating classified standards, or setting the standards so to speak, most often according to A. Donabedian’s model; (2) Measuring by using specific tools; and (3) Evaluating the gap between the situation and the fixed standard (Quality Assurance in Nursing Care: Structure and Process of Nursing Care. 2011). As such, the person qualified for this job needs to be well-trained and must undergo periodic training and exposure on the different facets of the discipline. The purpose of Quality Assurance is to set a standard of providing the highest quality of care in the Medical Field (Quality Assurance in Nursing Standards 2011). While individually, health care professionals such as nurses, doctors and other people interacting within the medical health care setting must have standards of their own, there is also a need for a group of people to be monitoring such health care practices, including facilities as well. This group may be considered as an in-house audit team, which touches the fields of training and education and of quality assurance as well. The team will go hands on in evaluating medical practices and make necessary recommendations on additional training and guidance from higher bodies, if deemed essential. The in-house quality assurance team should be directly reporting to the board of directors, as it solely responsible for ensuring top quality service in the medical institution. Moreover, there should be an external group of Quality Assurance/ Audit Team who does check and balances, and counter evaluates the standards formulated to ensure that a third party is working parallel towards the goals. The team must be headed by a Training Director, who must be a Master’s Prepared Nurse with no less than a total of 24 hours of relevant training. He must have also exposure on Clinical Nursing Research, and has relative expertise on health policies. Those who want to qualify should have at least five years working in a hospital setting. II. Develop a Marketing Plan A. Rationale Quality Assurance is needed in every service oriented profession and business, more so for health care. The principles and practices continue to evolve, and as research reaches new milestones, there is a need to monitor current practices in hospitals and other health care institutions to ensure that only the top-of-the-line and updated type of products and services are implemented. In a hospital setting where speed, accuracy and timeliness are only three of the most essential skills that health care providers should have, there should be a team whose only purpose is to ensure that all employees and staff work within the set standards. This is not only to protect the reputation of the institution, but most importantly to be able to give the best care for patients. B. Expected Benefits/ Outcomes from a Client/ Organizational Perspective A Quality Assurance Team equates to better implementation of Health Care Rules and Guidelines for the organization. This means that the organization is bent on investing on continuous learning, which is essential in any service-oriented group to ensure that project teams will have better efficiency in their corresponding work assignments. Moreover, having that level of confidence among the organization results to longer employment which means a strength within the organization as a whole (Quality Assurance and Project Management 2011). The degree of risking the organization’s reputation is also lessened due to the fact its workforce is now motivated to continue performing at their best. As we speak about reputational risks, the main impact of having a Quality Assurance Team to the client base as a whole is that there would be a rise in the confidence level of the patients, such that they will more comfortable trusting their health care and well being to a group p of people committed to providing only the best service to their clients. This is very important because having the confidence of the target market would mean better business for the organization. In as much as excellent health care should be the focus of an organization, it is also important for them to continue thriving in their business to attract more competent people, acquire better medical equipment and continue serving the health care needs of the people. C. Why I am best suited for this position? A Master’s Prepared Nurse is someone equipped to choose an advance practice role as a nurse practitioner (Nursing Master’s Degree Job Descriptions 2011).With my degree Masters of Science in Nursing, I may be qualified for an entry level degree for nurse educators and managers, therefore giving me the qualification to develop into a Quality Assurance Manager in Health Care. My current course is making me prepared for the challenges of a higher position with more responsibilities to contribute and perform in the medical field. Having spent the last five years immersed in Health Care for three major hospitals, I have garnered a sufficient amount of experience to equip me to become a highly skilled health care practitioner. The grueling day to day experiences particularly in infant and mother care have given me a renewed attitude towards my job. I can say that I have become even more dedicated with my work, wanting to achieve more than what I already did. Proof of this dedication is my current effort to finish my masters in nursing. I have also an enhanced experience in clinical nursing, having been part of groups that have helped trained entry level registered nurses. I have undergone similar training programs, with focus on research, community nursing, among others. D. Include professional, community or healthcare organizations that may serve as potential markets for this new service. Aside from hospitals and clinics, a Quality Assurance team is also best suited for nursing schools and universities. This is because in every service oriented organization where research and innovation serve as a competitive edge, having a group of people to closely monitor and continuously establish a developing set of standards is a must. Other health care groups that need the services of a Quality Assurance team would be entities in the field of dentistry, pharmaceuticals and allied health. E. Emphasize the unique philosophy/services of the master’s prepared nurse and differentiate this professional from other healthcare professionals. A Registered Nurse holding a Masters degree in Nursing is equipped for advanced practice. They are trained to become clinical nurse specialists, nurse midwives and clinical nurse anesthetics. They can handle more responsibilities in the work place and are often given advanced tasks in health care and research. After acquiring their masters degree, they can either become clinical nurse specialists or nurse practitioners, whose roles differ depending on their job description and the setting in which they are working. This particular group is different from certificate holders, registered nurses and nursing assistants such that they can perform management functions either in practical or clinical nursing as soon as the master’s degree has been obtained.
