History is very important to me as it provides a context to the things that are happening in the present. That’s why seeing the Wright Flyer and the Spirit of St. Louis was impressive. There, in front of my eyes, was living history, the first fragile machines upon which so much later technology was constructed on. I really wonder if the Wright brothers or Lindbergh had any idea what aeronautics would be like so many years later. Would they even be able to imagine landing a man on the moon?

It’s ideas like this that make museums so fascinating for me.  Another highlight was the Lockheed Martin Imax theatre—this was truly awesome. It felt like I was traveling in a high-speed aircraft, swooping over valleys and mountain ranges. It made me want to enroll in the U.S. Air Force to become an ace pilot. This trip overall deepened my interest in aeronautics. It is one thing to see pictures of these kinds of exhibits on the Internet or on TV—but it is quite a different thing to actually see them in real life.

I have resolved to visit as many museums in our nation’s capital that I can so that I might be able to get a true sense of the context and history of our great nation and its technologies.
