Abdulla Alhosani ENG101 – 010 4th September The influences of Reading and writing in my life During my childhood, reading was a vital part of mylife. At the age of 3 years, my older sisters and my mother helped me learn the alphabets. Nevertheless, the funny thing is that I learned the alphabets through an unconventional way, where I learned the letters L-Z first, before coming to learn A-K later on and combined them. Other than teaching me, my mother bought books and read to me on a daily basis. During the nights, I used to take heaps of fairy-tales to her, and she recited them to me as I sat on her laps. When I was five years old, I was able to learn how to read. It is absurd that I did learn to read at a young age, since, unlike the language skills of numerous children having nonverbal learning disabilities (NLD), my skills were delayed. Generally NLD children normally learn to read and speak at very early ages, and later on develop advanced vocabulary quickly. Some people thought I was retarded due to the fact I learned to talk at a late age. However, at last I learned how to talk, nevertheless, I turned out to be a talkative, chatty kid by nature and this made other children complain about my talkative nature. At a point during my babyhood years, I learned the delights of creative writing and I can still retrieve the earliest story that I wrote was about a cartoon. As from that time, I started writing continually and would ask my mom whenever I was not sure of the spelling. As it is with numerous NLD kids, the rate at which my grammar and spelling skills rose was rapid. Despite the fact that I was not good in mathematics and athlete, writing and reading offered me the self-esteem I badly needed. Even though I had zero chances of winning in the field, I was able to contest with the best kids and turned out to be the best. Spelling, vocabulary, punctuation and grammar, and reading were the areas I knew I was talented in, and so was creative writing. This very aspect has been noticed both by my parents, who had seen my good grades, and teachers, who had issued those grades for my progress. As a result, reading has not only discovered a new impressive world of literature for me but also has shown me the way to self-improvement in all respects. The passion I had for writing and reading has improved my life in numerous ways. Through reading a lot of books, I have gained so much knowledge about life and the world we live in. Also, it enabled me to escape the actual tribulations and trials of the world. I cannot be able to jot down all the books I have managed to real through the centuries since they are just too many. But every book has made an impact on my life in a way, and the writing skills have enabled me to be creative and also developed my language-arts capabilities. All these have assisted me to overcome the flaws initiated by my NLD, and in this day and age it plays a greater role. As a grown-up now, I have gained a formal education in creative writing and through reading books like “The Institute of Children’s Literature,” my creative writing has improved professionally, and I just hope that I am headed to publish my magazine or book. I am now in a position to show the world about my expertise in writing. Having functioned as a part-time corresponding reporter, from October 2013 to May 2014 I acquired not only some cash but also I got some experience that could be of great use in helping me to get a job. Am glad that my experience in reading and writing has had a great impact on my career path. Someone may argue that a writer’s interpretation of a fact and its true presentation may differ. But still, whatever the case, certain details of almost every book set a stamp upon my view of life. Just like any other book I read, I usually become acquainted with the information and similar to how a good student searches for information, I will be motivated to read more and more out of curiosity. My unstudied knowledge has awakened not only my desire to read more and more books, but has also helped me in the development of my philosophical and psychological skills. Whether we accept it or not, individuals usually compare themselves to the characters present in a book. Therefore be assured that reading a good book that contains virtuous characters is without a doubt going to alter you to a better individual sooner or later. Moreover, some stories have made me treat animated natures as creatures with souls that deserve a respective humane attitude. In particular, I note such thoughts in a diary, which has assumptions for altering life to a better one. Through the experience, the manner in which I commit my thoughts on paper has also changed as well, I noticed this when I started comparing the notes I wrote in the past and the ones I am writing currently. My thoughts nowadays are organized, and they are usually easy to understand since I do not fumble with words. Reading has transformed my thinking into the one of a creative thinking individual. For sure, my story with its detailed description of the impacts of reading and writing as well as my ways of thinking may be seen as ordinary experiences. However, these experiences are not just conventional, and it requires more than just reading numerous books to attain it. Employing my creative mind while reading this books has enabled me to see beyond the concepts and ideas the book advocates for, thus having an added advantage over thousands of book warmers that exist out there. Through reading the books, my mental horizons have been widened. Have we not all overheard the saying that a man’s world is as gigantic as his head. Through reading books critically we travel mentally. We explore emotions, vistas, and places through the writing of the authors. Customs, laws, traditions, individuals, and places, among others, are known, and this makes one know more. The more we know, the more we attempt to attain more out of our lives. Additionally, the internet has offered me a way of keeping my hand in, in regards to fiction writing. However, owing to the patent restrictions, it is impossible to make any cash off them. Nevertheless, they are an abundant way of gaining exposure. Becoming an author of a children’s book is one of my goals, and I have already taken some positive steps in attaining that. This is through a children’s enigmatic novel that I have already written, and it features dyslexic heroine. Therefore, I have all the needed chances to put my interests and strengths to attain my dream job in the field of writing. What I can tell NLD adults is that along with remediating your flaws, find what you are good at and zilch in on your aptitudes and strengths. Since it is through applying them that one has the best opportunity of attaining success in this competitive world. You should not let your condition define who you are or hinder you from pursuing your goals. Finally, every person dreams are valid what you have to do is to put them into practice. Read More
