address 11th April address Dear Sir/Madam, RE: Letter Assignment Writing has been enjoyable for me and my passion for it grows with each passing day. Writing has become a game of words to me and I enjoy stringing words together to communicate my feelings, thoughts, and experiences. I have come to believe that the immense warehouse of words is the greatest treasure of the English language and the uniqueness of their sounds and connotations affirms it. I have enjoyed learning how to pair words skillfully to bring out my message in an effective and skillful way.
I have discovered that practice helps me improve on my vocabulary and as such, I have developed a writing log that helps me monitor my writing frequency and progress. Here are my other experiences and the things that I have learnt from writing (Goldberg 45). I would categorize myself as a fiction writer and I enjoy reading fiction. Danielle Steel and Robert Ludlum are my favorite authors and they inspire my writing. I like Danielle Steel’s inclination to writing about friends and family and these have become important influences for me.
Robert Ludlum’s tendency towards detective fiction is what I particularly admire about his writing. Essay is the other form that I like especially because of its efficiency in communicating ideas and the freedom it allows a writer in regards to diction, syntax, and content (Goldberg 46). Coursework and assignments make me to write severally in a week, but for pleasure, I write once in two weeks. I have not written for student publication and jobs but I intend to try writing a column in any of the student publications.
I feel I have not been writing as much as I would wish because I would want to write daily. I seek to achieve this with the writing log I have developed. The log will help me detect when I am doing too little and when I need to slow down and invite feedback on my writing progress. My friends and tutors are the people who provide feedback on my writing and this feedback has been helpful in improving some my areas of weaknesses (Goldberg 47). Listening to some music in the background while I write is one of the writing rituals that I have developed.
Music helps me counter the fright that comes with seeing a blank page in front me waiting for me to start writing. The rhythm of music soothes my mind and stimulates my creativity making ideas to flow logically. Music also helps me counter my disinterest for revision and rewriting. However, even without music and regardless of how daunting revision is to me, I reckon that it is a crucial aspect of my writing and one that determines quality of the content of my message (Goldberg 48). My social issue of interest is security and this interest has been inspired by the increasing global insecurity.
This quarter, one of my goals is to extend my writing to this issue and environmental responsibility as an ethical topic of concern. The other goal I have for this quarter is to attend at least two writing symposia in order to interact with other writers. Additionally, for this quarter, I aim at reading more books on diverse topics in order to widen my knowledge base (Goldberg 49). In conclusion, writing has been enjoyable for me and it has taught me several things. For the time I have been writing, I have discovered that my interest is in writing fiction especially detective fiction.
Friends and family are the important influences for my writing. Although I write severally in a week because of coursework and assignments, I would wish to write something daily. Listening to music while I write is my writing ritual. Friends and tutors are sources of feedback for my writing. Insecurity is a social issue of interest whereas environmental responsibility is an ethical issue of concern to me. I hope this narration suffices to tell you about myself as a writer. Yours faithfully, Sign Name Works Cited Goldberg, Natalie.
