I had never thought about the importance of scientific literature.
Another idea which I drew out from the article under analysis and found really interesting is that scientific articles are actually full of literary devices. For me, it was a sort of discovery that, in fact, did not correspond with my view on scientific literature. Before reading Does Rhetoric of Science Matter?, I used to think that there is no place for figurative language in writings on scientific issues because I believed that such kinds of writings are aimed at describing things as they are. In other words, I thought that literary devices, such as metaphors, should not be used there due to the fact that they somehow distort and embellish facts. However, now I see that very often the use of literary devices is the best choice for the authors of scientific articles as they help deliver information more efficiently.
