It is vital to acknowledge that the elements of nature have a significant influence in stimulating an individual or a designer into accomplishing a given design task in a way that suits the demands of the respective environment. A substantial example that illustrates this fact is Thomas’ Seed Cathedral located at the Expo Shanghai which is built to survive the forces of Mother Nature (Wujec et al, 91). As a recommended pillar in design, clarity of vision certainly helps in the creation of the world’s most spectacular designs that end up solving some of the oldest world’s snags in a postmodern way. Therefore, through the “abductive reasoning” that Roger talks about, fresh and valuable ideas derived from experience laced with keen observation can ultimately solve the expected future complicated problems of the world.
Even as some stakeholders in the design industry brag about the availability of a defined process of design, it is apparent that the steps taken by individual designers in coming up with their designs are exceptionally unique. If the story behind the artists of the Shanghai Tower, who emphasized efficiency and later delivered a spectacular structure is anything to go by, then there are many aspects beyond processes that come to play. Indeed, making such a remarkable design and implementing it fruitfully does not only demand a defined design process, but a combination of collaborative, fiscal, and technical acrobatics (Wujec et al, 133).
The fact that individual designers differ significantly in various aspects is evidence that their talents and unique vision could be the two elements that dictate how far they excel in design. The postulation does not, however, disallow the use of defined processes in undertaking design work. Designers must acknowledge certain standard processes in design. As evidenced by the contemporary developments in the field of design. They should embrace the precedence set by Zaha Hadid Architects who use computer power to lead 21st-century design towards a pragmatic orientation of conception. The digital prototyping of the Marriott also deserves recognition as it is tangible proof of the use of the process to transform critical products and processes.
Design thinking is one of the best approaches to innovation processes. It has significantly improved the way ideas are developed and adopted by businesses and manufacturing industries. I believe that if human behavioral needs and preferences are considered during an innovation process then the result will greatly satisfy the emotional need of consumers. Just as several companies and firms have adopted the design thinking approach and succeeded, the business world can improve and even expand its market if they use that method. The stages involved in the design thinking approach are very efficient and effective. They are exhaustive as they inculcate all the aspects required to come up with a product or service that meets consumer needs and wants effectively.
Integrative thinking, collaboration, experimentation, and research, have shown that the result of design thinking will have a wider spectrum capable of solving all problems and providing alternatives (Brown, 3). Therefore, the innovation process will create an idea that shall have satisfied all consumer’s needs and wants. This approach if adopted can change and improve the process of product development, rebranding, and service production. Since the needs and desires of consumers keep on changing there is a greater need to come up with services or products that will meet these shifting needs. Therefore, it is upon the providers to improve their methods of coming up with products recommended to them. That is why it is good for them to adopt this approach for easier and faster development within the recommended period.
A company should educate its staff on the importance of this approach in their daily operations to make them imaginative and creative. It will ensure that the business has the consumers at heart at all times. A consumer-centered company will always provide the best service or products.
In my opinion, the design thinking approach is the best innovation strategy that a firm or company can adopt in its daily operation to maintain its position in this competitive world. I believe this approach can do well in all manufacturing industries, banking sectors, service providers, and all other companies that always come up with products that must meet the changing needs of their consumers. Design thinking is the next big thing in today’s world that will bring change to the way innovation is done and provide solutions to all problems.
