The life-changing event in my life Introduction The event that marked the beginning of my life story starting to create a positive impact on people’s lives is one that has been intriguing and most significant in my entire life. It gave me an epochal reason for telling my life story to the people who really needed it for their transformation. I realized that our life experiences would always bring an impact in life of many people if offered to the right audience. This event just marked the beginning of my journey. I woke up at the break of dawn to do the finals on my story and compose myself for the day. The clock was ticking fast on this particular day and at exactly 9 AM. We left our school and headed for the event. The kick off time for the event was expected to be at exactly 10. AM and was targeted to cover three schools in the neighborhood. It was organized by the peer educators’ group from my school and I requested for an opportunity to offer a speech and this was granted to me. The organizers for the event therefore were my school’s peers educators group and the intended audience was the students from the three targeted high schools. I had not figured out that my speech would be a source of motivation to the students. It then started with prayers, then followed speech from two guest speakers and finally my time came. This was the first day in my whole life that I had to address such a big audience. As I walked to the stage, I broke out in a cold sweat and so I had to take a quick breath as my mother had constantly advised. I then felt at ease and was able to start telling my story. “We are all unique and so our strengths, weaknesses and abilities,” I said. I gained composure at this moment when everyone turned their attention to listening to me and I started with explaining how I lost my self worth due to the fact that I could not have artistic abilities as my brothers had and how this led me to performing poorly in my academics. I continued telling of how the decline in academic performance led me to receiving negative comments from my high school teachers and friends and how I started believing in this comments. I explained how everyone thought that I was a disappointment to my family, how I stopped believing my parents when they told me that I was unique and that I had a special ability, other than the artistic ability that my brothers possessed. “I then resulted to isolating myself from my friends who could at that moment perform better than I could and I ended up in a state of self denial”. I explained how my academic performance continued declining until I was ranked as being a poor student in my class, how this made me to feel more worthless, and how I ended up to a state that I could not see the reason to live anymore. “I ceased to listen to anyone who made a positive complement and only took the negative comments that left me feeling worthless and going to school became something I had to do to get away from my parents’ positive complements”. At this point, majority of the people were so moved by my story, and many were already in tears. I immediately realized that I had the ability of motivating many people and I now felt the need to continue telling it out. I continued telling how my redemption from this state of isolation and feeling of self worthlessness came from a speech that was given by a motivational speaker in a television channel. I continued to tell how this speaker had a similar story and who for the first time in the past two years said differently something that my parents had said over and again that I was unique and had unique characteristics. I explained of how the speaker had failed in sports excellence, how he ended up losing hope from this and how he later discovered his leadership abilities. I explained then how I made a resolution of working hard to discover my abilities and to see that I utilized them for my own success. “I resolved to study hard and started engaging myself in activities that would help me discover my own personality rather than comparing myself with my brothers and friends”. I explained how I later found my ability in academics and how I started excelling academically and how I started taking note on just the positive complements since that day, and how I discovered my ability in academics and focused on making the best out of it. I then explained that the aim of telling my story was to transform the lives of so many who lacked the opportunity of discovering their personalities and of knowing what they were able to accomplish. I watched with great pleasure to see how many students looked determined and how many of them resolved to make efforts to discovering what they can best do rather than complaining of what they could not do. Happiness laid a gentle slap on my face as I watched the same progress in the other two schools. The event ended up bringing more strength since it gave me the ability to see what great impact I was able to cause on many people’s lives. I was determined to do this repeatedly in order to help rebuild the lives of many students who thought that they could not make it in life. The event opened an inner insight that I had never experienced in my entire life and that I was ready to experience for the rest of my life. It gave me the pleasure of discovering how many people needed my help to rebuild their lives and what great difference I was able to cause in the entire world. Conclusion The event marked the start of a journey that I was willing to undertake throughout my entire life and gave me the pleasure of discovering how motivational I was and how productively I could use my story and past experience in bringing a meaning to many people’s lives. It therefore marked the beginning of a journey whereby I have been able to organize many life-changing events for students who have lost hope and who do not see the need to continue making efforts. To sum it up, it enabled me to realize that our life experiences, if only utilized on the right people, are capable of transforming their lives for better. It therefore marked the beginning of my new journey of changing the lives of people using my own story. Read More
