... In O’Conner’s book “A good man is hard to find”, the role of the family proves critical in developing the plot and bringing out the major themes and concerns, the story centers around the grandmother of the Baileys family. The geographical setting will no doubt appeal to an American audience since it is set in real places with the destination like Tennessee’s, Florida and Georgia, from the story, one learns about and relate the evolving highway transport system in the 50s. One also catches glimpse of the racial inequality in the country at the time; the black boy they pass only seems to serve as inspiration for a picture; his poverty and near nakedness made to appear his natural state. This is in sharp contrast, the white family... In...

...Non-fiction Style: Martin Luther King The letter that Martin Luther King wrote to eight ministers in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963 was in response to their published appeal to their congregations to stop demonstrating against the unjust segregation laws that had been oppressing the black population in the South since the end of the Civil War. As King was the leader of these demonstrations, he was one of the 53 individuals who were arrested that Good Friday. His letter attempts to justify his actions and highlight the need for nonviolent demonstrations such as the one he’d just led. It was only through this sort of action that the white population could be forced to negotiate better terms for the black...

In this non-fiction world, the society plays a great role at changing the way fiction is taken and studied at the same time. Fiction essays and pieces of criticism look to solve the maze that develops within a reader’s mind from time to time. ...Personal Sliding Doors I was only 15 then, but the sharp feeling of emptiness I felt on that day is still clear to my mind until now. I was tired. I was emotionally exhausted although I did not show any physical signs of weariness. Looking around our typical brown suburban house that I used to call home, with its fences giving way to nature’s natural process of causing decay to biodegradable materials, I felt more miserable. Even when I stared outside the half-open window with disheartened eyes, my irises clouding over, I felt no better. Outside, some kids passed by, skipping and hopping in their shiny school shoes, not minding how their backpacks bounced behind them, and their shrill laughter and non-stop chatter were...

Kelley argues that identity is a complex individual and environmental product and process, a product of the intersection of political, social, and economic forces, and a fluid process affected continuously by globalization and personal decisions. He assumes that by the history of globalization and multicultural interactions, people are generally polyculturals. Kelley effectively uses ethos through expressing a credible... that...

... their deep emotional energy. This moment of the essay reveals another aspect of the theme of conformity and rebellion because it shows the opposite essences of a cowboy’s personality, which are the intrinsic inner emotional energy and the bravery of a silent observer that a cowboy extrinsically demonstrates. The essay “About Men” is a part of Gretel Ehrlich’s book “The Solace of Open Spaces” where the writer describes her perception of Wyoming and understanding of its land and people (Hoy n.pag.). That’s why the perception of a cowboy’s image is described in such a non-fictional way like a kind of metaphor or a sign that transfers a reader to some deeper interpretation of a cowboy not as a profession, or some man from Marlboro’s... to her...
