Response to Free Play: Improvisation in Life and Art by Stephen Nachmanovitch “Would that Free Play found its way intoevery school, office, hospital, and factory. It is most exciting book and most important one”. Yehudi Menuhin, great violinist (Free Play: Improvisation in Life and Art).
Above words were written by Yehudi Menuhin, who was a great violinist of all times. Stephen Nachmanovitch was a disciple of violin legend Yehudi Menuhin. Free Play: Improvisation in Life and Art is an amazing piece of writing of Stephen Nachmanovitch. Stephen. Nachmanovitch is a veteran musician and a seasoned music teacher. His piece of writings are a must read for all who have craze for art and music. His book Free Play instills and resonate the passion of music in readers and is a best book on improvisation.
Improvisation is a difficult topic and it is a most realistic book on improvisation I have seen yet. I am really impressed with Stephen Nachmanovitch’s book Free Play. It was a resonating and promising experience to study such a nice piece writing. It is a very unusual, thought-through, and through provoking book on mystic creativity, which is a difficult most topic. Improvisation in art and life is a very difficult topic. It is very difficult to perform extemporaneously for everyone even for actors. Doing improvisation in a strange place is a very difficult to deal with. Free Play book has far reaching affects. It runs deep into our activities of art, music and everyday life. This book integrates knowledge from variety of important works of art, literature, science, etc.
“This book is important not only because it devolves into the creative process, but also because Nachmanovitch creates the opportunity for reader to get in touch with her/his own creative possibilities and abilities”. Harvard Educational Review
My ideas about improvisation shifted due to this book. It resonates in me the element of the art of improvisation for art, music and everyday life. It tempts me to believe in myself and do everything as per my natural instinct. Writer‘s approach is equally useful for children, teacher and others peoples of all kinds. It is good to randomly do things but some part of me is reluctant to believe that we should improvise all the time. We can anticipate the future happenings and we can try to prepare for them in order to better coup with every situation. While, if we need to perform somewhere randomly, we should give our best shot by using the ideas presented by Stephen, Nachmanovitch in Free Play: Improvisation in Life and Art.
In essence, I am really impressed with this piece of writing which instills the sense and feeling of improvisation in me. It taught me how to improvise for music and for other occasions when you have to perform randomly, without any delay and any preparation. But I still have reason to believe that if we can anticipate what we would have to do, then we should try to prepare for that particular situation. Free play addresses the inner sources of spontaneous creation.

Free will

determinism. Though both the sides bring evidence in support of their claims, yet the discussions endorse the very point that most of human actions, as well as man’s fate, are dependent of determinism though humans have been granted some powers to get involved into the activities of their choice to some extent in the wake of their whims and wishes. Hence, the topic under investigation observes great philosophic significance in its nature and scope. The Paper: Renowned theologian Jonathan Edwards (1754) has provided a detailed account of the concept of free will in his works, where he views the free will to be the desires prevailing in the human breast, and produce pleasure for man. Since it is mind that maintains the powers to di...

How free is the free market

... How free is the Free Market? The simplest answer to the question is that the free market is not very freeif we take the opinion of neoliberal economists while it is too free if we look at the competing viewpoints (Carrier, 1997). A reasonable assessment of economic systems becomes difficult since there are no real examples of a completely free economy in the world and no real instances of where an economy is completely controlled by the government (Chomsky, 1996). Therefore, the quest to gain a right answer to the question demands that we look at particular situations i.e. the labour market and the financial market to see whether the market in general is free or not. The first example which comes to mind is the labour market and western...

It isabout the socioeconomic pressures that the black contemporaries of the writer confront. The play is full of drama, commentary, stage movements, props, and humor. Death of a salesman - play response

... Death of a Salesman-Play Response This is the second time I was watching this play after watching it 2 years ago. This time the venue was at Denver Center for Performing Arts. Willy is portrayed as a passionate person in this play especially when he is talking to his wife and his young boss. His passion and anger, which is eliciting empathy for his poor soul is clearly brought out in the play. Willy’s voice is compared to his old and weary refrigerator. He is worn out due to his age. He is 63 years old and still struggling to make sales all over. The dressing codes and costumes of the actors indicate that this play is an ancient play. The sound effects were perfect with echoes employed especially during the flashbacks. The director Powell...

Response to the Hamlet Play by William Shakespeare

...Response to the Hamlet Play by William Shakespeare It is much appealing to the readers in that the long awaited moment is witnessed at the end of Act 2 of the Hamlet play by William Shakespeare. Right from the end of Act 1 through the two scenes in Act 2, the audience has waited King Hamlet to revenge against King Claudius. King Hamlet advocates the play The Murder of Gonzago to be played in enhanced scenes so as to make Claudius killed King Hamlet before he resurrected. However, the end of Act 2 is just a preparation of act 3, scene 1 where conspiracy among the main characters continues (MacDonald 39). Shakespeare has created suspense in the audience in the transition from Act 2 to act 3. In Act 3 scene 1, Hamlet’s is excited while...

Free Trade

... Free Trade Introduction and Background The expression “free trade” implies to commercial activities, which are, comparatively unimpeded and not supported by the set of laws and policies of government, for instance subsidies, quotas and tariffs. The idea of free trade was first perceived in 18th century, in response to mercantilism by a famous group of French economists called “physiocrats” and afterwards by Adam Smith and David Ricardo, who have been famous classic economists. (Sudo, p. 27) Comparative Advantage As stated by Maidment (p. 43) continuing the “laissez-faire” philosophy headed for worldwide trade, they emphasized the nations to focus production and export of goods which they could manufacture most efficiently and similarly...
