Children's literature emerged during what is now termed the Victorian period. The Victorian era was a time period characterized by a major shift in every element of society. Not only were people’s livelihoods changing from primarily rural and agrarian to primarily industrial and urban, but long-term social organization structures were shifting as business moguls replaced the nobility for power and prestige.
