Commemoration of such an event has a significant national unity influence as it promotes a spirit of patriotism among people. There are diverse reasons that support the need to celebrate the declaration of independence. The colonialists plundered natural resources and repatriated local wealth to their motherlands. This poses a real threat to future economic progress as the limited natural input factor dictates the level of performance. All nations that were formerly colonized have little resources left which mean they have to rely on other economies and pay for what was previously available.
The civil revolution has helped many colonies to escape the exploitation trap that was orchestrated by the imperialists. It is therefore worth noting that the declaration of independence reminded the society of the dark past characterized by ravaged economy and impoverishment. Taking the case of pre-independence in the United States, England dominated economic activity and reaped at the expense of the subjects. The young generation is particularly targeted by the spirit of national integration because if it were not for the forefathers and their relentless effort the fruits enjoyed today would not exist.
The welfare of the society is instrumental in gauging the level of improvement in the economy. Political policies that recognize the need to initiate gender mainstreaming can be attributed to the declaration of independence. Colonial regimes were dominated by patriarchy with a limited representation of women in the decision-making institutions. The emergence of the independence campaign has significantly boosted the recognition of the rights of women. On the same note, consideration of local culture is critical in promoting an integrated education system. Colonial systems may not be consistent with the native socio-political structures hence yielding setbacks. Some of the other contemporary matters that make the declaration of independence concern human rights. Colonial authorities tend to promote inequality in various aspects of governance and treatment of individuals (Chin, 112). Recalling the time England colonized America, it can be observed that oppression was intense and leaned towards the colony. Imposition of taxes that were taken to the colonial powers progressively sunk the colony. The law was selective and treated people as separate and unequal.
The courage to overcome this experience must always be appreciated through a selfless commitment to the country. Even in the 21st century, new states are still being born after the bloody uprising against their perceived oppressors. The current trend of globalization has been reported as beneficial to economically stable nations. This situation would be worse for colonized states. In that respect, the declaration of independence is a tool of great value for the past, present, and future as far as the social and economic dynamism of the world is concerned.
