Teacher Raymond Carver’s Cathedral The draft is a nice summary of the reading Cathedral by Raymond Carver. In just few paragraphs, I was able to understand the important of the story although more could have been said about the story. There is obviously more to the story than the visit to the town of the blind man Richard. The story has hidden meanings where some of it were told in allegory. For example, why will Richard would like to have Bub drew him a picture of a cathedral knowing that Bub is not a religious person who does not believe in anything.
Could this be a hint or start of anything? Of course the story will directly not tell what that meant which makes it more interesting because it leaves us to fill the gap by our interpretation of the story. It would have been nice if the interpretation was included.James Baldwin’s Sonny’s Blues In essence, James Baldwin’s Sonny’s Blues s about a person’s struggle, discovery and liberation of which every human being undergo to a relative extent. Probably the reason why there was an attempt to keep the narrator anonymous is to maintain the universality of the story.
Albeit it may spoke of the struggle of the African-American against segregation and prejudices, the same struggle is also experienced by other people although the challenge may take in different form. The paper “got” the gist of the story and just needs some polishing. It was also nice that some quotations were included to emphasize a point such quoting “low ceilings of their actual possibilities” when complacency was talked about. It progresses to select some scene’s in the work to highlight aspects of the story making it more detailed without being too laborious.
