Obama’s speech on Gun Violence The video is a speech of president Obama discussing a package on how to combat gun violence. Obama addresses the victims of previous shootings in the Sandy Hook elementary school as he discusses the political and administrative policies under implementation to reduce gun violence. Obama explained that the government was experiencing difficulties in pursuing legislation on gun laws but insisted that his regime was doing its best to address the agenda. He stated that there is no law or legislation that has, maximum ability to eradicate all forms of violence or tragedies, but the government was doing its best to control gun violence.
He asserted that it was the role of the government to take responsibility of keeping children and adults safe and directed the authorities to play their roles effectively. He directed the ownership of assault weapons should be banned so as to reduce the probability of gun violence occurrence (Paulson, retrieved from http://www.examiner.com/article/obama-s-speech-on-gun-control-and-gun-violence-america-video). He also said that capping ammunition should be limited to ten rounds and banned armor-piercing ammunition.
The president insisted that all schools should have resource officers and more police officers to be on the streets. He authorized that gun trafficking punishment be increased in a bid to reduce its occurrence. Obama advised the attacked school to organize counseling programs for the students so that they would recover from the tremor. The president presented a series of twenty-three actions that would ensure that gun violence is curbed. Obama insisted that the actions would not be implementable without the support of the public and hence called for collaboration between the Americans and the involved administrations.
He urged people to contribute their ideas on controlling gun violence and direct the police to areas where “gun worship” is strong. Obama said that the white house was pushing for laws to limit gun ownership that groups like the National Rifle Association have been pulling back (Paulson, retrieved from http://www.examiner.com/article/obama-s-speech-on-gun-control-and-gun-violence-america-video). He reiterated that Americans had to propose for a vote on whether to allow some people keep guns and advised that the only correct hands to hold guns were the police.
Obama promised that his government was going to follow up all cases of gun violence and ensure that all those who commit gun violence are brought to book and punished accordingly. However, Obama insisted that he respected the Second Amendment on gun ownership, and he acknowledged the Americans who legally owned guns and used them for correct purposes. He criticized the recent gun attack and said that it was not in accordance to the existing gun laws and was against the constitutional rights of the victims.
He said that under all conditions, nobody had the right to take another person. He said that he was not against gun ownership if everybody used the guns for the correct purposes. Nevertheless, he insisted that new laws on gun ownership be made so that only those will high need of using a gun were allowed to own guns. He promised to heighten security levels so that needs for gun ownership would be void (Paulson, retrieved from http://www.examiner.com/article/obama-s-speech-on-gun-control-and-gun-violence-america-video).
