The article states, “Opponents of social networking say that the sites prevent face-to-face communication; waste time on frivolous activity; alter children’s brains and behavior making them more prone to ADHD.” Furthermore, students who used social networking sites while studying scored 20% lower on tests and students who used social media had an average GPA of 3.06 versus non-users who had an average GPA of 3.82.” This clearly means that social media, especially Facebook distracts students in school when they should be more focused on academics.  With so many games and applications, Facebook also distraught students by constantly sending them the game and notification invites.

It is clear that social media usage amongst teens is prevalent and needs to be stopped. Social media has been a deterrent factor for young adults because they lose concentration as depicted in the article. One of the most prominent issues in this realm is the idea of security. It is clear that the notion of privacy still haunts organizations. I think Facebook needs a proper protocol to stop notifications or a timer that will stop comments for a certain time. Moreover, Facebook lacks adequate security protocols for users because it enables users information to be prevalent, which can cause child stalkers to target young victims. Read More
