I was very determined to win and, therefore, I dedicated myself and spent sleepless nights practicing. The song was quite challenging since it was not easy to translate all the words. I kept on forgetting some parts of the song, and I had to refer to my script uncountable times. Giving up was not an alternative; I had to win thee challenge. One month prior the talent show day, I sacrificed having fun with my friends and visiting the gym. I utilized this time to perfect my presentation.
Finally, the long awaited day came. After class that day, I rushed to my room to freshen up. I dressed to the occasion and started the journey. My family had travelled to cheer me as I presented. We drove to the venue, my younger brother and mom sang the song all the way. This assisted me since I was able to grasp every word as they sang. My father helped me that my effort would be rewarded, and I would win. We arrived, and my family went to the audience hall when I joined the other contestants. The contestant looked so sure of themselves, and this made me feel nervous. Their mastery for English was very good, and they were so eloquent in their presentation. I was nervous and wondered whether the audience would applause me. As I marched forward to the stage, I spotted my mother from the crowd. There was very much pride in her eyes, and I heard an inner voice say, "Time has come. Make your mother proud." I stood behind the microphone and held my guitar tighter. This time, I was very composed and sure of my eloquence. I started the song and amazingly, I did not forget even a single word. It seemed as if English was using my native language. ... Rules are First As far as I can remember I have always liked English language, my inspiration came from my nursery school teacher who once told me that ‘People will like you more if you could speak more than one language.’ Many people speak English as a second language and I thought it would not be difficult for me either, little did I know that it was not going to be as easy as A.B.C. With the idea in mind that what one man has done man can do I went ahead with the journey of an unknown end and with a good start I was consoled with the saying that well begun is well done until I came to realize that its writing method, rules and attitude are different and diverse as the different cultures, nations and traditions in their writing...

Many people learn it because it is the international language in education, business, science, and technology, and so acquiring English literacy promises professional and business success. As a non-native speaker of English, I have some difficulties in acquiring excellent English skills. Before, I felt so pressured to learn English that I hardly learned it due to anxiety. ...& No Literacy Narrative 25 January Looking back on my early upbringing is always a joy for me and a journey to the past. I learned about the power of language when I listened to my mother telling me wonderful but totally incredible stories about fairies and other myths. Through this first experience, I came to realize how important it was to obtain a decent education. Because of this, I was no longer hesitant to go to school, unlike my other siblings. The first few years in elementary schooling were in our native language or what others call euphemistically as the mother tongue. It was only much later that we got our first rudimentary lessons in English language. It was a bit tedious at first, because...

... of A Descriptive Account of a Literacy Narrative The reading of Middlemarch was an extremely significant event in my life. It entailed the reading of this great work of literature by George Eliot that talked of life in a small English village and the effect that changes in the economy had on the lives of the people of the village. The event involved an understanding of these changes and the numerous changes that the characters went through during the course of the novel. Reading the novel was a literacy narrative as it involved an experience where I read a piece of literature that has also affected profoundly the manner in which I have written fiction in the past. The mode of realism that Eliot employs and her focus on the issues... of...

... My learning experience “You don’t spell with your fingers,” father said as we looked at a large book with described pictures of popular pets. “You look at the letters, and try to make out the sound they form.” He added. I looked at the picture, a creature with large eyes, lean body and a long tail. I could tell this was a cat, but pronouncing ‘cat’ was then an uphill task for me. As we spent time on the book, I had mastered all the pets in the book, the different types of fruits and parts of the body. During our session on the parts of the house, I managed to construct my first sentence. Out of the blues, or perhaps I supposed, I said, “mum banana kitchen.” Dad looked at me for a long time with a smiling face, then, as was our... My...

...Literacy Narrative I remember several episodes of nervousness in my earlier school years and particularly before seventh grade when it came to my turn to speak in front of the class. While other students confidently spoke about topics assigned to them by the teacher and actively engaged the rest of the students, I always stuttered in shame and fear just a few sentences after starting. The main reason was because I knew that as much as I had prepared for my presentation, I was going to forget most of it because I suffered from attention deficit disorder. This was complicated more by the fact that we were not allowed to read but talk from memory. Further, even writing an essay about our experiences after a...
