Analyzing the Logic Ramanathan Arun’s article School funding: New emphasis on local control focuses on how the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) that is currently applied by Californian schools to allocate funds for different uses should work. The author, an executive director of The Education Trust-West, notes that even though the LCFF has good intentions and is being put into practice by schools, the way some of the schools apply the formula is wanting and ineffective. The author presents himself as a credible source whose opinion is authoritative.

Through the article, the author calls for the implementation of LCFF to the extent that it will truly benefit those to whom it is targeted (Ramanathan 2). Ramanathan applies a lot of logic in making his arguments. He presents statistics relating to how schools have implemented the LCFF. For example, he notes that the Fresno Unified held 12 community forums from which it got so many comments while San Diego Unified has held LCAP workshops in its 16 clusters (Ramanathan 1). Ramanathan effectively uses a formal tone in his argument taking note of the potential audience and the gravity of the matter he is discussing about.

One logical fallacy that is evident in the pieces relates to how some districts use their committees to allocate funds for different uses (Ramanathan 1). While this may be the case, the author fails to provide examples or statistics to prove their argument. He simply states a point and bothers not to prove what he is stating.
