My Grandpa & His Life Lessons People seek for their life example everywhere; they like knights from legends, superheroes, presidents, celebrities, novel characters or people they barely know in life. Obviously from the title of my essay, I prefer to appreciate my family as the greatest influence I have. Of course, all family members are equally important in my life. I would never become myself without care and support of my mother and father. However, I would like to talk about my grandfather as the greatest person I know. He inspires me with his wisdom and patience, which keeps our family together as a unity. My grandfather has unquestionable authority is my family. His life experience, personal traits and considerate attitude always have positive influence on family relationships. When my family has to make some important decision, we have no other person who can help us better by a relevant piece of advice. Grandfather always can suggest some actions to take and things to do to be honest with other people and support good reputation of the family. He has experienced many life situations, which are even difficult to imagine as I represent a totally different generation. I am still too young to notice many little details in communicating with other people or settling family businesses. However, supported by my grandfather, I feel self-relevance and confidence in my future. He does not need all details to understand what other people feel; he has a strange ability or even a gift to read my mind and say the words which make me feel better in any situation. In my culture people grow up nurturing deep respect to their relatives and older generations. Since my childhood, grandpa has been my personal example of a leader and a person who can handle any situation. When I was a little child, grandfather contributed a lot in the process of my upbringing. All family members were busy at work and I often spend time with my grandparents. I was always glad to arrive to their house; it met me with little presents and tasty food, cozy atmosphere and a number of family photos in every corner. My grandparents often told different stories about my parents when they were younger. They knew dozens of both funny and sad stories about my relatives, their children and even grandchildren. They often recollected the ancestors of our kin and made me respect all those people without knowing them. My grandfather was always the main narrator of those stories. He sat in his favorite armchair and looked at me with a big smile on his face. His eyes, however, were never empty. They emitted care and wisdom people got when they had coped with life challenges and difficulties on their way. He hardly asked me what I wanted to hear; though, I was happy to hear any story or tale he told. Usually he preferred to talk about our family and it was amazing. My family was quite big with lots of cousins, uncles and aunts. All of them had their stories and my grandfather seemed to know them all. Even though he had the power to influence anyone’s decision, he held a position that people were the owners of their fate. Back to the stories, they were really curious. I was laughing a lot when he told me about my father and his childhood experiences. When I had problems at school, grandfather always could cheer me up by telling another funny thing about my dad, who tried to persuade me than he had never been a teenager. In any difficult moment I felt a deep sense of pride for my family and a desire to meet their expectations. My grandfather together with my father had a lot of them. They always wanted me to be the best and to do the best I can to compete and win the competition. On the other hand, it is my grandfather who taught me to respect other people and treat them with dignity. He always said that if I wanted others to respect me or listen to me, I had to treat people in that way. He also taught me to treat our family as the greatest treasure in my life and listen to my relatives carefully as they had more experience and wisdom. My grandfather said that words had no value unless they were supported by actions. He wanted me to be responsible for everything I said and did to become someone great. His greatest lesson was that every failure was a lesson for me to learn. No matter whether it was a bad mark or a bruise, everything was not accidental. I was a child when he told it to me, but I realized the meaning of his words later. My grandfather now is even wiser and greater person. I cannot imagine my life without him as he is my personal hero. His thoughts and values inspire me to be a better person and avoid silly things young people can do. His influence is difficult to assess because it is so deeply rooted in my personality. It incorporates both traditional up-bringing and flexibility to face the challenges of the modern liberating world. I always feel his control even being far away from my home. I have no chance to fail or make him feel upset because he has done so much for me and I want to become the same respected and wise person in his age. He is the core of our family and he keeps everything in the right place. All in all, I do not know many people who deserve to be called my personal heroes. However, my grandfather meets all the criteria to get this title. He is wise, logical and a bit conservative in his thoughts. He manages to keep our family together, even though all people are so different. He always finds good things even in bad times to make our spirits high and inspire me to be optimistic. He can tell many stories but all of them make sense as they trace the values which make me stronger and better. They protect me from failure and possible regrets I still can avoid.
