HUMANS AND ANDROIDs HUMANS AND ANDROIDs As human beings, we are to different ways of dealing with inadequacy, death or loss. Humans have developed tools since times past to deal with inadequacies such as in the household and technological fields. Some household tools may include washing machines while technologically tools as simple as calculators make a load work easier. However humans are prone to emotional problems such as loneliness or even death. Tools are constantly being developed to cope with these too.

From a simple program designed to offer company by dialogue to as complex as a full life robot or android. Terror Management Theory that is built mostly from the notions of Ernest Becker begins with the idea that humans, as opposed to other creatures, face something that is possibly terrifying: the attention of our own death rate in addition to the desire to stay alive. In the words of Terror Management Theory co-creator Sheldon Solomon, the attention that you are intended to wither away to nothingness, and in turn are no more significant than a reptile or a spud, is not particularly impressive to anyone.

So how do individuals deal with this awareness? From a Terror Management Theory strategy, individuals deal with death rate by doubting their own death rate, and preventing considering it. They hold back the terror, generally (for example, loss of lifestyle ideas enhance a prevention inspiration, lead individuals to embellish the potential length of their lifestyle and death ideas lower after individuals are advised of death). But, this strategy certainly is not able to a degree. We know we will die, no matter how much we try and avoid considering it.

So, individuals developed social signs of significance and value that offer a sense of significance and significance, and eventually, growing old, when individuals stay up to and maintain the factors of these values (hence the human need for self-esteem), as a means of dealing with their own loss of lifestyle. This immortality can either be representational, such as by splitting information or causing worldviews and categories that continue beyond a persons loss of lifestyle, or actual, as in perception in lifestyle after death.

In ‘Electric Grandmother’, a mother is replaced by an android in order for them to stay with the father and not be taken away. We find that they find an advertisement for Facsimiles’ Unlimited, a company who proclaims "I Sing the Body Electric," which is a robotic grandmother who will provide care and love to families. This is initially is just to take care of the children but as the movie progresses, the android is found to be a replacement of their late mother. Karen and Tom are thrilled about the likelihood of developing a granny, who would look like their dead mom, but this concept angers Anne and she runs away.

We find then that Karen and Tom are easy to accept the android as a replacement for their dead mother which however is not the case for Anne who is angered by the thought that her mother lied to her and left her. In future there is a possibility that robots will be hugely eye-catching to people as partners because of their many abilities, feelings, and abilities. They will have the capacity to fall madly in love with people and make themselves passionately eye-catching and sexually desirable to people.

Robots will transform human thoughts of really like and sex. However in the story ‘I Sing the Body Electric’ or the movie ‘The Electric Grandmother’, the android is just an emotional replacement. It is accepted by all except Anne. Anne comes downstairs, shouting that she dislikes her deceased mom for lying to her and that she dislikes Granny. She runs away and Granny goes after her. When she lastly catches up, Anne confesses to Granny that she dislikes her mom for leaving her. Angel says that when her mom passed away, she let herself die as well.

Angel walks onto the road, just as a van drives around the area. The car owner is not attentive, and just before the van strikes Ann, Granny drives her out of the way, and the van runs over her instead. When Granny is able to stand up, unscathed, she replays Annes words to her. This shows to Ann that Granny really is different and that she will never abandon Ann. Over the course of the next eight decades, Granny likes and instructs the kids and she really fills up the part of a grandmother.

When the kids have grown up, Granny must tell them farewell. Granny must come back to the manufacturer where her body will be taken apart. She will discuss what she is familiar with from the kids over the eight decades with the others in the room of comments. Granny stocks that she desires in the near the future she will be provided the gift of life. The kids tell her that they always sensed as though she really was in existence. Granny then delivers the kids upstairs and leaves them, having finished her job there.

Here the author leaves us thinking, if robots can and do become aware, will we take their emotions into account? The record of our interaction with the only nonhuman sentient people we have experienced so far – creatures – gives no floor for assurance that we would acknowledge sentient robots as people with ethical status and passions that are entitled to concern. The difficult query, of course, is how we could tell that a robot really is aware, and not just developed to imitate awareness.

Knowing how the robot had been designed would offer an idea – did the developers create the value to offer only the overall look of consciousness? If so, we would have no purpose to believe that the robot was aware but if the robot was developed to have human-like capabilities that might furthermore cause awareness; we would have reason to think that it really was aware. At that factor, the activity for robot privileges would begin.References1. Litton, David S. Terror Management Theory and Individual Differences. , 1994. Print.2.
