Extract of sample "Academic Plagiarism as a Non Professionalism Act"

Academic Plagiarism I would start by defining plagiarism as a non-professionalism act, and my attitude towards this academic offense is negative (Vernon 193). Thereafter, I would motivate them by advising them that they should avoid from engaging themselves in such behavior as it denotes lack of seriousness in their academic work and loss of meaning for the assignment or research paper given to them. Does it bring any meaning for a tutor to give assignments only for students to “copy paste” and hand it in for marking?

It is unethical to the students whatsoever (Wong 32). Most students usually find themselves in a situation where they are defending themselves due to insufficiency of ideas concerning plagiarism. Plagiarism can be viewed as an academic writing offence whereby a writer or researcher uses the ideas of another writer without necessarily acknowledging the writers work (Tipping 35). Through this act, students present this information as their own work and it are a common misbehavior amongst students, researchers and professors.

The issue of “copy” “pasting” has affected most students and failure to paraphrase or reference their work properly lead to poor grades in their papers. Consequently, supported by various research studies it has emerged that plagiarism has been a problem to most students in tertiary institutions worldwide. I would tell them that the reason for my decision to teach them plagiarism is as a result of its increase in most institutions as a result of technology but technology too has made it possible to detect the act of plagiarism in an easier way.

In order to encourage the students to practice academic honesty, I would give them the reasons why some students practice this act of plagiarism and how to avoid it. I will clearly inform them that a large number of students do this act since they cite “lack of time” as a protection for the offensive act (Tippin 34). Additionally, I would give them information about how people practice this act that has been on the increase to see why we need to control it. Therefore I would conclude by stating that it is not a good practice to use someones knowledge and ideas terming them as ones own work without acknowledgement.

Additionally I would encourage them to avoid this academic indiscipline act by showing them how to stop the act. I would tell them that they need to observe the various methods and ways of preventing plagiarism that include proper citations, paraphrasing, and proper referencing. In-text citations and referencing however differ from the various styles of academic writing which should be observed and should be well understood by the students.
