This article addresses the concern of the 1968 election of that reshaped the Democratic Party. According to the article, the election led to numerous social issues that led to the Miami Beach convention thereby attracting large number of national television audience. These circumstances led to what the Republicans later referred to “acid, amnesty and abortion” convention. It should be noted the same social changes largely influenced the politics of the United States following the civil war between the southerners and northerners.

According to Van, it was under the same circumstances that the Democrats-for- Nixon organization emerged. Notably, in the year 1968, the victory of Richard Nixon was greatly influenced by Democratic convention that later led to Vietnam War prolongation.
