Discuss how one of your strengths can be utilized in the workplace. 3 8 A. Submit the peer evaluation report for the evaluations you received from your team members. Members were asked to evaluate the follow peers on a scale of 1 to 5. While 1 represents the lowest satisfaction, 5 represents the highest. Following is the table and the evaluations i received from the other members of my team: B. Evaluate your personal and team performance in the simulation based on the peer evaluation report by doing the following: 1. Discuss how one of your strengths can be utilized in the workplace. One of my strengths is the willingness to listen to others, as shown in the student peer evaluation table. In my opinion, this item number 5 is a major characteristic which can be utilized in the workplace to make it productive and effective. As a production head, i constantly put efforts to patiently listen to others including the sub-ordinates, get to know their innovative ideas, make their voices heard, and engage all the people around in the communication process. Along with passing the commands, i also listened to others as listening constitutes a great deal of importance because many decisions can be made better if one listens to others’ perspectives, and many actual as well as potential conflicts can be dealt with just the capability of listening to others. Also, sub-ordinates are the people who are most familiar with ground realities. Listening to others, hence, is a strength which if someone possesses can bring huge economic benefits to the organization in prior to better decision making and high morale of the workers as they will feel important to the organization. 2. Discuss how you can improve upon one of your weaknesses in the workplace. Weaknesses need to be overcome as they have the potential for being a major reason in the failure of the business (Hauser, 2012). When evaluated by my group members, it was found that my contribution, attendance at meetings, and leadership were the major drawbacks. This was perhaps because of an inappropriate leadership style or not being much competitive and strong leader in directing the way. I should rather be more vigilant, risk taking, and influential as the production head. Too much relaxed attitude with utmost responsibility given to the subordinates may increase their motivation and productivity since they would feel no “pressure from the top”, but a little control from the leader is needed. Workers needed to be guided, always been given directions, and should be lead from the front by the leader. I lacked in this area, but certainly overcoming the loops is the best solution ever. I will tend to become more competitive, leading the team, always engaging in all kinds of meetings, giving clear directions to all, showing my leadership skills. Training and adopting an enthusiastic strategy would help. 3. Discuss your role on the team. I was in charge of the production department. My role was to engage in careful planning and analysis or evaluation of different strategies and product decisions of different products with the team. As the production in charge, I experimented with different strategies and production decisions and looked for their impact on the business in the long-run. Decisions of right quantity, quality, and capacity with their effect on the production strategies were carefully studied and examined and only after this, i had to choose the best possible combination which was the ‘Broad Differentiation Strategy’. I was also responsible to make decisions regarding the performance, size, and mean time before failure (MTBF) of the products along with the study of these decisions impact on the outer world such as company’s market share, size, demand, capacity, and performance with the help of graphical statistical methods. 4. Discuss the strengths of your team as a whole. Each of the members is well versed, knowledgeable and skillful, able to take the responsibilities effectively and efficiently. The core strength lies in the fact that each of the team member worked together in order to achieve the respective goal. When there is an achievement in the team it is shared among the team members and not only by particular individual. This formula tends to strengthen the team and make it united. With effective coordination the team was able to achieve the desired success for the sensory manufacturing company. Working together in a team setting aside all the differences towards a common goal with extreme hard work and determination was the most important strength of my team which made it possible for us to achieve the desired goal. Rather than working for one own-self, the members worked as a single unit for the team’s goal. Hence, Co-ordination, focused determination and unity were the major strengths of the team. 5. Discuss the weaknesses of your team as a whole. Some of the team members were reluctant or facing problems to get along well with each other which in turn was hampering the work process. They lacked proper communication skills or were unaware of the importance of these skills in teamwork. This situation was a weakness for the organization and the team as we wanted each and ever member to contribute as a team, communicating their thoughts, ideas, and emotions effectively across the members. But, still we managed quite well and tried our best to make them participative. Apart from it, at one point of time in simulation, we became too over-focused and competitive that we went overboard for research and statistics in order to get the best strategies and points that we almost ended up with the time and financial resources, but then back in the end we were able to discuss the issue and overcome the problem through realization and effective communication with the members. 6. Explain how you interacted with your team. I followed an open communication system with the members of the team. Regardless of being the in charge, I adopted one to one communication with every other member so that interaction between the members is freely done without any hesitation resulting in better working conditions. Any issues with the team members were solved with utmost care keeping in mind their needs, demands, and feelings. All of the members were allowed to come and discuss any issue whatsoever anytime they want to and this interaction process was given utmost importance by me as I wanted to ensure that effective communication takes place, and the team becomes successful in achieving the goals. Meetings, planned as well as urgent, were also called up whenever they were needed to discuss the progress and any work-related problems. 7. Explain how you overcame challenges you faced as a team. The team’s biggest challenge was to bring back the struggling business of the manufacturing company into the right track with effective implementation of resources. For that, the team tried to project the growth rate for the next 8 years for all the departments including marketing, production, R&D, finance, and HR. All the departments were given specific objectives, both long term and short term, which needed to be fulfilled within the stipulated time period. The team with their determination and hard work was able to achieve all the objectives given. We laid great emphasis on the R&D department, and generated new ideas to benefit the business in the long-term too. Another challenge was to avoid any conflicts in the team and to work together as a single unit which we overcame quite successfully by practicing effective communication, patience, motivation, and making a friendly yet economical environment. 8. Discuss what teamwork advice you would give to others who were beginning to work on the simulation. I would advise the beginners to first get well acquainted with each member so as to get comfortable and have friendly environment which would help later in the team in the form of effective communication. This would help them to have effective one-to-one communications where they could discuss issues and hence each member would become involved in the work. The duty or role of each member to be clearly assigned with each member knowing exactly what is required of him/her. Any instructions given should be made very clear with constant feedback and appraisal for greater efficiency in the team work. Empower the workers as and when required and build healthy trusted relationships amongst one other. All these little things would make the team the best force with the best results and performance in the end. 9. Discuss the relevance of teamwork in the simulation to the context of your professional development. Teamwork and professional development in any organization are interrelated. Professional development is a part of lifelong learning process, and it is here that one gets observed by supervisors and peers and gets the chance to identify and rectify the weaknesses, issues or problems in either the management or work. The simulation helps a person to learn from the mistakes which would make him more cautious, prudent and careful in the later professional years. The relevance of teamwork is high since it helps professionals to set back their ego in order to legitimate the professional goal. It is through teamwork that I have been able to identify myself along with my strengths and weaknesses and got able to survive in the difficult situation. Most importantly, the removal of ego-centrism is one of the essential links between teamwork and professional development. Teamwork has enabled me with great analytical and understanding skills which are beneficial both on personal and professional grounds. Therefore, teamwork has many positive highly relevant features which contribute towards the success of the company greatly. Reference List Hauser, A. (2012). How to Overcome Business Weaknesses.
