Bad Grammar on the Web http www.wilmott.com/blogs/eman/index.cfm/2007/9/26/Punctuation-Grammar-Plurals The problem with this sign is that this should be broken down into two. The first line should say no pets and the second line should say shirts & shoes required. From looking at the pictures, it seems like no pets and no bare feet are necessary, and shirts are required. My edited version would like look this: No Pets; Shirts & Shoes Required. From this picture, it is too difficult to tell what type of shop it is, but it is safe to presume that many people enter this store.

Because of this, some people might not want to enter the store if they are unsure whether they have to wear shoes or a shirt.2. http://www.purplewren.com/grammar/ This sign makes the mistake of replacing “Lose” with “Loose.” There is a major difference between the two of these words. My edited version would be: “Lock Your Car or Lose it.” Coming from the Nottingham City Council, this obvious mistake should have been corrected. It is likely that most people won’t be fooled by it though because it is only a small mistake and they can figure out what it is trying to say.3. http://donnalethal.tumblr.com/post/1674453554/poo The problem with this sign is that the canine regulations are written from the point of view of the dog rather than the owner.

The most obvious mistake is “Must Pick Up Defecation By Owners,” which implies that dogs must pick up the excretion of their owners. My edited version would be “Dogs must be on leashes at all times. All dogs must be licensed. Owners must pick up defecation of their dogs.” Since this sign is only in a park, it is not going to make to much difference, but it could cause some confusion for people who read it literally.
