Knowledge appraisal depends on the practical application of theory in real life situation. The current world has been endowed with knowledge in diverse fields generated from scholarly discourses, geared towards finding solutions to contemporary challenges in a bid to make human existence better. However, some fields manage to capture the continuum of life from the personal level, organizational level, state level and even global level thereby giving such fields a universal perspective. According to Grant & Chris, economics is a discipline that affects all aspects of an individuals perception even to the apparent nondescript apsects of human life such as “watching TV and reading a newspaper” (5).

The essence of education lies within its ability to promote creativity, invention and innovation. These qualities endow economics with unique characteristics for anybody interested and conscious of the role played by resource management for solving problems and progressive development. My first interest in the field of economics was as a result of experience growing up in China. As a small boy I used to wonder why some pupils would get better grades than others despite being in the same classroom and being taught by the same teachers.

Although I would hear of people talking about differences in abilities and talents, I realized that resource management was the key. In essence, some pupils managed their time well and created room for studying instead of playing throughout their free time. The simple concept of resource management has since been a guide for me in all my endeavours. I have been a witness to two major economic crises; the Hong Kong economic crisis in 1997 and the economic crisis in the U.S in 2008. The hopelessness and the suffering the crises caused were far reaching affecting the economy from the personal level, organizational level and even globally.

For a moment I viewed the crises as mammoth challenges that could not be approached using my simple concept of resource management. However, I have come to realize that with the correct knowledge I can play my part by learning how to respond when such situations arise, in whatever economic capacity I will be involved with in future. Currently, I am studying at De Anza College and am looking for an opportunity to major in Economics to allow me to pursue a successful career in the field of Economy.

It is my utmost belief that University of California will provide me with the opportunity to advance my academic and career prospects. I am seeking to join the institution as an exchange student and having considered the socio-cultural and financial challenges I might encounter, I still believe that it is a course I am more than willing to pursue. I believe that I will also have the chance to compare the economic dynamics at play in two of the world’s economic powerhouses; China and U.S.A. My goal of seeking to advance my knowledge in Economics is driven by the need to acquire a knowledge based view of Economics and put my experience in practical use in the real world.

The knowledge characterized by scholastic guidelines will act as a launching pad towards creativity, innovation and invention. I believe that you will grant me the chance to learn amongst one of the best economic students in the world and be taught by one of the best economic professors in the world. Learning Economics will equip me with the skills to use today’s challenges and opportunities in mitigating or eliminating tomorrow’s challenges. Works CitedGrant, Susan & Vidler, Chris.
