Spiritual Autobiography - Personal Statement Example

PERSONAL SPIRITUAL AUTOBIOGRAPHY My family is loving and supportive. I am receiving good education and doing well in college, easily got into college where I am currently my undergraduate degree. I am intelligent and sensitive, a good listener and writer. I continuously learn many skills and try to do good work with my life. I happen to have been blessed a family that is extraordinary, with whom I share many values with, and a wonderful community. God presented me with the chance to be born and brought up in an ideal Christian home. Together with my siblings, our parents used to take us to church three times in a week. We prayed prior to every meal, we had family devotionals, and our parents set a perfect example for us to observe and follow. They constantly taught us about God, and this enabled me to learn about His grace, love, patience, and forgiveness. My mother served as the family’s spiritual head. She continuously reminded us to pray and read the Bible (at times it felt like nagging). We normally had great conversations about faith, and she always explained the reason they cared so much for our spiritual development. Though great full for parents who cared for us, I was not so much interested about my own spiritual development. However, I was still on the journey, and like most journeys, I didn’t traverse alone in this one. I was challenged by a close friend of mine while in high school on a lot of theological issues, and I didn’t know the answers, these questions planted seeds of doubt inside me; I had a believe that doubt was the indication of my loss of faith, directing my back on God. I started becoming in a troubled and confused, lost in powerful religious ideas and questions, which eventually made me to become fade up with Christianity and more curious about other religions. At the time of my freshman year, while I sat to my introduction to the course of Christian Faith, is when I came across a phrase that would eventually become essential to my vocabulary; truth tensions. As I continued having problems with questions and doubts in high school, my mind that was analytically geared, I really needed to obtain a definitive and analytical answer to each and every question. Initially in my mind, every issue was a clean-cut, black or white, either/or response that was knowable by reason. At college, it finally hit me that this was not the case. Human beings have a free will, yet God has remained sovereign. Both of these statements were true but they were in tension with each other. It was both exciting and freeing to understand that Christianity was full of paradoxes; ideas that seemingly contradict each other, but are true nonetheless. My mind was freed with these truth tensions to pursue God more fully without the pressures and restrains of finding the one, right answer to each situation and issue. Much is hazy in the future. But one thing am sure of is that Christ called me to follow and serve Him. I was given a heart and passion by God for the ones who are on the fringe; individuals who are disappointed with traditional church, those with negative church experiences and those who are seeking for truth and God in an organized Church. My desire is to meet them on their environment and share together with them the love and truth of Christ in relevant ways, authentic and that is sincere to the spirit of the Gospel. This kind of ministry could be in a church plant setting, alternative worship gathering, urban ministry, or other venues. One of the major events is when I baptized prior to high school. I was baptized in our swimming pool by the pastor of the church that my parents attended since I was afraid of walking down the aisle at the time of the invitation song. I also preferred for very few people, my family and close friends, to witness the event. It was somehow funny looking at my face in the mirror the following days, I felt as if I looked different. I started to think that God was actually staying inside me. But it won’t be accurate to state that from the time I emerged from the water, my life was completely changed and that I was transformed. After all, I thought I was not old enough. I was not quite sure what doubts or struggles were. For a long time, I floated along, satisfied with my naïve ideas regarding God and Christianity. In high school is where I received a real shock the time that life’s realities started hitting me hard. I deprived of a soul mate and a friend to drugs, parties, and sex in 9th grade. The following year I went to a different school and had to begin over being the ‘new boy’. After a few years, during my senior year, many other traumas pulled me away from God. Chase, my younger brother, was diagnosed with a heart disorder that was rare. The same week, my grandma passed on. Then my father had to take off work for some time to attend to a surgery. These times were difficult for us as a family. Amazingly, my mother was very strong through this time and was mostly praying and reading the scriptures. I had to be strong too, the last thing I wanted was to make my mother start worrying about me because her hands were full and did not wish to add more agony to her. It was amazing how the word of God made her strong, this is the point in time that marked my turning point to serve the Lord. I wanted to know who God really was and how He comes through for you when you most need Him the way He came through for my mother. My mother was my source of strength during the hard times and when it was all over, I decided to give my life to God so that he could conform me spiritually to the image of Christ for the sake of others. There are a lot of assessments that one requires so as to succeed spiritually. You will require spiritual assessment (the most important one), physical assessment and professional assessment. Spiritual assessment helps us to getting closer to God. Through going to church a lot, I get the opportunity to hear more of the word of God. Praying is crucial part of spiritual fulfillment. Reading the bible help in gaining the knowledge of being spiritual. Spiritual assessment is a big factor in worshipping God. Next, a professional assessment will enable me get focused in my career. In order to secure a good job, I will have to work hard and graduate with good grades. Finally, physical assessment will help when you have to do physical work. The work of spreading the gospel requires individuals who are physically fit as it is demanding physically. Getting stronger helps me feel healthier. I try to exercise daily. I eat nutritious foods. When am healthy and strong, I am able to go that extra mile in spreading the word God which I believe is my main purpose in life after being conformed spiritually by God. I have to accept that the future excites me, and a God, who has elements of mystery. God called me so that I could serve Him, and I am looking forward to my calling clarified in the next few years. It is always my hope and prayer that I will for sure live an eternal type of life now, and be a living example to those around me.
