An Experience That Taught Me a Lesson There are many occurrences and happenings in an individual’s life. Some of these experiences are very important and tend to leave a mark on a person’s life. These experiences tend to teach a person a lifelong lesson and have a strong impact on a person’s future decisions. I also encountered one such experience in my school life that I will never forget. This event taught me an important lesson and molded my character and laid a strong influence on my future choices and ways.

This important event took place when I was in sixth grade in high school and opted for cheating to complete my work. My act was caught and I learnt an important lesson for my entire life. When I was in sixth grade, things were not very easy and it was difficult for me to cope up with my studies. I was not scoring very well on my class assignments. I had decided that I would work harder for my next assignment to improve my overall grade. But to make things worst I fell sick for one week and could not attend school.

This made me lag behind in my class homework and I could not complete my homework assignment. This homework assignment was very important for me owing to the fact that it would have laid an impact on my final result. I attended school on the day when the assignment was to be submitted and I asked my best friend for help. She was one of the best students in the class and she gave me her homework assignment that I copied before the class started. I had completed my assignment but deep down I knew it that I had cheated.

The class commenced and I was very nervous when my teacher, Mrs. Shavick walked in the classroom and asked for the homework. I submitted my work and kept on praying that I was not caught. But things did not go as I had wanted them to and Mrs. Shavick checked the assignments and she analyzed that my assignment was copied. She tore my paper apart into pieces and humiliated me in front of the whole class. After the class was over, she led me to the principal’s office. The principal issued me a warning letter and also called my parents for a meeting.

It was a moment of shame for me. I could not confront my parents as well as my class fellows. I resented my act and I reached to a decision that I would never commit such a mistake again in my life. The event passed and I faced the consequences but this experience laid an impact on my life. I leant my lesson and I understood that I would never opt for any wrong means. I decided that I would never cheat not only in academic activities but also in other important decisions in my life. I analyzed that a person should maintain his principles and stand by what is correct.
