Telling about Myself - Scholarship Essay Example

I came to the USA from Asia (it is better if you write the of your country here instead of Asia) about eight years ago, in the September of 2003, as a student. I am just about done with my Associate degree in General Education. I come from a low-income background and do not have any family financial support to fall back on. Throughout my student life I have had to pay for my own tuition fee, which has resulted in me taking out student loans – currently I owe about 3500 dollars in student loans.

I am a very hardworking person and have made it my goal to do all within my power to complete my education, however, the fact that I have insufficient funds make it very hard for me to realize my dream of graduating. I have taken up jobs whenever I can to help pay my tuition. My family is very proud of the fact that I am the only one who has come this far, and that too on my own, but they are helpless as they do not have enough money and thus cannot help me in achieving my goal. As stated before, I am already under debt, debt that I am trying to pay off and find difficult to, to borrow more would burden me to the extreme.

I am a very avid learner and take great pleasure in my educational activities. This fact alone makes me the ideal candidate for this scholarship. However, being involved in charity work (I have volunteered many times at soup kitchens and community service), I also appreciate the thought that goes behind this scholarship, and will ensure that the grant of this scholarship does not go wasted. I will be very thankful if I am granted the scholarship, as I will be able to continue my studies without stress, thus, being able to concentrate wholeheartedly on my education.
