According to statistics, America’s total fertility rate is currently at 1.93, which is the lowest ever-recorded fertility rate from 1970s (Last). The falling of fertility rate comes with its own share of consequences ranging from economic, social as well as political challenges (Last). Many women in US especially those falling under the well educated with high-income jobs category prefer not to have any children in their lives. They explain that they love their lives that way without children because having a child proves to be very expensive.
In addition, they claim that bring up a child is a fulltime job that requires the parent to forgo their own lives and look after their children (Sandler) America’s fertility rate has been reducing drastically. Researchers claim that the latter is because of college education and middleclass wages. College educational has become a universal experience for many Americans thereby making people to marry later after school. College education is playing a significant part in reducing America’s fertility rate.
It increases the expense of raising a child because the current society has made college education an essential part of every child’s life. Middleclass wages among many of US citizens has made having children a burden to many couples because they view it as expensive (Sandler). Besides women taking up careers that are very demanding and the availability of birth control pills has led to the low fertility rate experienced in US (Sandler). In addition, many women across the globe have negative attitudes towards raising children, as it becomes destruction to their personal lives.
For instance, to many couples that do not have children, having a child would mean that they do not attend parties, holiday trips or even lose their social lives (Sandler). In addition to many United States couples, it is evident that the regime via its calls for spouses to have more children is only out to increase the number of taxpayers. Despite all the efforts put up by the regime many spouses still opt to remain childless (Last). Researches claim American falling fertility rate is the root cause of its predicaments.
According to Last, once a state’s fertility rate falls immensely below replacement, its age profile begins to shift (Last). The latter brings up a situation where a society comprises of many older people than youths (Last). This is because older people have a higher affiliation to death, which prompts the population contract resulting to less people, major social, political as well as economic effects (Last). For the last two decades, scholars have lectured the world on the vast challenges brought about by over population.
They have triggered diverse countries to come up with harsh policies in a bid to reduce over population. For instance, Chinese regime decided to embrace a brutal one-child policy (last). The latter meant that the Chinese spouse ought to have only one child in their marriage lifetime with those having more children subjected to severe punitive measures. For instance, the latter people pay hefty fines or have abortions against their will while their husbands lose their jobs and considered society misfits (last).
However, when one clearly thinks of the basis of their lectures, it is obvious that they miss a point. From an economic point of view, economic specialists claim growing populations usually lead to increased innovation as well as environmental conservation in the world. For instance, in US from 1970, the prices of commodities have gradually been falling while environmental conservation efforts are evident despite the increase in American population of more than 50 % (“CBS News”). Through this, they prove that human resourcefulness is the
