Download file to see previous pages... By the way, what is happiness as per your perceptions? A. To me, happiness is prosperity and pleasure. It is freedom to pursue the path of one’s choice in life. Happiness is achievement and to find joy in that achievement. Q. Do you believe in moment-to-moment happiness or long-term happiness? A. Long-term happiness! The subject of human relations that I specialize has taught me the virtue of pursuing permanent values in life. Q. Does morality lead to happiness? Tell me in short, what is the moral aspect of your life? A. Obviously yes! To be of help and service and not to cause intentional pain to others is the goal of my life. Q. Does ethical living contribute to happiness? Impacted by the Popular Culture, the younger generation has taken to negativities in life quickly. A. I hope I will not be influenced by the negative aspects of the Popular Culture. As for the first part of the question, ethical living and morality are alternative beats of the same heart. Interview II Mr. Hamilton Paul has been our neighbor for the last four months. He has recently purchased this house in the community. He is a retired banking official. Except for a casual “Hi!”, I have hardly any contact with him. I have information from the Secretary of the Community Welfare Association that he is a divorcee and lives alone. I seek an appointment with him over the phone and he readily agrees to meet me. Though I do not mention that I am going to interview him, he answers my questions with composure. The interview proceeds, thus, after we greet each other formally. Q. Hello Mr. Paul, how do you do and what do you think about living in this Community? A. Absolutely fine. Q. Staying alone? A. You know I am a divorcee. Q. Are you happy to be alone? A. The world cannot run on happiness! Q. You hardly have any interaction with the members of the society. Are there any reasons for this detached attitude? A. I am afraid you get it wrong. I live, thus, by choice. I am happy to be alone and live in the company of my books and do gardening. I love Mother Earth as the source of all energy. Q. Well, thank you Mr. Paul, great meeting you! A. My pleasure! Part Two: Essay Happiness baffles definition. Each one sees the new horizon. Happiness is also related to time and circumstances and the level of spiritual progression of an individual. Spiritual giants, philosophers and intellectuals have written millions of pages on the subjects of ‘joy’ and ‘happiness’ that have eluded the humankind in the known history. In the final analysis, happiness of each individual is within and one has to achieve the state of happiness for oneself and it varies from individual to individual. From the answers given in the above two interviews, it is clear that the concept of happiness as envisaged by a youth differs much from what has been stated by the senior citizen. The wise saying goes, ‘there is a beauty in the sunrise and also in the sunset’. The concept of happiness of a young man (Sunrise) discussed in the above interview differs much from the senior citizen mentioned in the second interview (Sunset). The young man is clear about the type of happiness that he is going to pursue and he is interested in long-term happiness. This means he has a vision in life and would like to remain away from negativities and gives importance to ethical values in life. He has secular ambitions; desires to earn money taking up the career of his ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
