Advice for freshmen Introduction Writing is an exciting discipline with multiple specialization choices. This implies that the career is wide enough to accommodate every specialty and interest. It is a discipline under the arts category and therefore requires a lot of interest and creativity to ensure success. However, it offers opportunities for growth and perfection through its dynamic nature. For starters, at a university level, the course borrows many ideas from high school thereby requiring students to maintain an attentive personality with the capability to conceptualize ideas and therefore develop them with time (Evans 31). Additionally, writing is secondary to other discipline. Depending on the different writing categories that one may choose to develop interest in, primary information on the subject is paramount. The discipline therefore relies on other primary knowledge and skills such as interviewing skill and research skills which are two important skills in the information gathering process. Writing in collage is more advanced than the high school. While in high school students learn the basics to writing and developing their grammatical prowess, the collage writing goes beyond the ability to construct effective sentences and extends to the development of constructive sentences that communicate effectively. Additionally, in college students major in smaller sub categories within writing such as fictional writing and plays among many others (Duras 12). Each of these requires different category of writing skill and specific knowledge to perfect. It is at collages that students develop such patient aspects of writing thereby developing careers out of their passions nurtured in high schools. Besides the obvious difference, high school plays an integral role in the development of effective writers since it is at this stage that students identify their skills and writing abilities. Writing, just as stated earlier, is an art and therefore relies on interests and the abilities of the students. High school helps students identify their abilities and interests thereby giving them opportunities to express and develop. Majoring in writing presents the students with different opportunities through which they can develop their careers. The course has a number of majoring options key among which include fictional, scientific, play writing and poetry among others. The course gives its majors an interesting introduction with a basic elaboration of each of the major options. At the elementary stages of the course, students study generally often trying their interests in the different majoring options. The course introduces the students to the different requirements for majoring in the different career options. It further compels students to choose from the different major options thereby encouraging specialization. Specialization is a process through which students develop careers in the specific elements of the course that they portray their best abilities and interest in. However, writing is relative and some students portray interest in more than one major option. The course gives the students the freedom to major in different options thereby creating dynamic writers with multiple skills. Different classes use writing differently. The course is closely related to journalism, which is also a writing major. However, journalists report facts to their audiences who portray different abilities. They therefore write in a particular conventional manner that improves readability among their diverse readers. This type of writing differs with writing stories such as fictional narratives, poetry and scientific writing since unlike in journalism, the other writers have specific audiences. Writers therefore often consider their audience in developing their pieces. This implies that writing is diverse; everybody with knowledge can possibly write. However, professional writers possess knowledge and portray this by first understanding their audiences and therefore developing pieces that are relevant to different groups of audiences. Professionalism in writing as taught in the course refers to ability to package information in a unique way thereby earning it relevance among the audience. Additionally, writers just as any other type of artists, are creators. This implies that they develop original pieces and therefore earn the patents for their unique works. This requires writers to have a level of creativity to enable them conceptualize original ideas and give the society a representation that is unique in their own way. Writers represent the society through their works, the career therefore requires the ability to interpret the different factors in the society and repackage them in a unique way to earn the affectivity of representation. Such works represent the different social and economics factor through themes and the use of stylistic devices. This way, writing demands observant personalities with the abilities to notice the specific issues in the society and present them in the most idealistic nature. The most of the modern societies are liberal and writers enjoy relative freedom of expression. They write about different social issue in their societies such as politics and economics among others. The complexity of such careers require that writers possess the knowledge of such disciplines and therefore present them either as literal or to criticize them effectively. They are creators, they have a pool of opportunities of creating characters and using them as they deem fit. They must therefore exercise restraint in their creation to ensure that they develop realistic characters and apportion them their roles effectively. The course is progressive as writers identify their talents and therefore develop them through time. This requires varying amount of assistance from their lecturers among other technocrats. The school has highly spirited and professional lecturers who offer their assistance to the students depending on their interest and inquisitive nature. Different students possess varying levels of interest on the course; this dictates the degree and complexity of their questions. However, the teachers offer their course classes as dictated by the curriculum after which they tailor make their assistance to their students depending on the nature of the student’s problem. Learning in the course, just as in any other, occurs progressively thereby implying that the writing abilities of freshmen differ greatly from that of a finalist at the college. The difference occurs naturally since while a freshman is new from high school, the finalist has spent some time in the collage and therefore learnt the different types of writing and their requirement. This implies that a finalist is a professional write while the freshman still is a novice writer. Additionally, there is no single standard of writing; each student is unique from the other and therefore possess different skills. This makes the different students take interest in different course majors and develop interest in varying types of writing. Success in writing is therefore relative and originate from the satisfaction a writer obtains from his or her work and the response from the audience group. This differs depending on the prevailing factors at the time of writing most of which influence the outcome of the write-up. Works cited Duras, Marguerite, and Mark Polizzotti. Writing.
