However, the end of the flash disk is close due to the increase in the use of external hard disks with capability of holding up to one terabyte. The changes in technology are based on the increasing innovation in all the communication and transport sectors. The existence of different ways of handling data makes the process of communication and media complex and changing rapidly. The development of massive cameras, speed cameras, and transmission of the data improved video coverage. Consequently, the evolution of the storage devices improved all the ICT dependent sectors leading to the development of better media coverage and reporting.
The development of the internet has helped transform storage devices from being static to dynamic. The initial process in computer operation involved the use of diskette operation systems which relied heavily on the diskette. Without the diskette, the computer could not operate which affected the performance of the computer and the storage process involved in the operation. Consequently, the development of the internal storage ensured that the operating software could be installed on the computer without relying on the removal device.
The development of the hard drives ensured that a lot of data can be stored in the computer as opposed to the traditional diskettes. The move from diskettes to the compact disk and the digital video disk which has higher storage space that the initial compact disk. The development of the optical disk was successful as a medium of storage for songs and movies. Compared to the audio magnetic tape and the vinyl discs, the compact disc offers a diverse platform for storage of media files and can accommodate both the audio and visual files in a single disk.
The magnetic tapes were specific to the media target, the VHS tapes were the magnetic tapes that replaced the reel tape of the 18th and the 19th century the development of the video home system encouraged the growth of the sales of the tape but the development of the digital video disc ensured a small portable device is developed. The challenge of the new media is the rate of piracy associated with the media. For instance, 98% of the software used in the developed countries is pirated making the compact discs and the digital video discs easier to copy than the traditional magnetic strip.
The durability of the magnetic strip is the main advantage of the new media. The compact discs suffer from a serious problem of scratches that makes them useless after some time. However, the capacity of the new media is the bonus because it allows the user to store and retrieve the information. The storage capacity has been the main focus on media from the traditional diskettes; the focus has been on accessibility and storage space. The development of the compact disk and the hard disks was not the end of the innovation.
The transition from hard drive to the use of cloud computing is a new approach in data storage. The most developed of the satellite television and the cable television indicate the ability and the potential for change in the future. The future of media is bright with the development of advanced features and devices. The current development of the Google specs which has the ability to access internet and offer navigation indicates a bright future for media and communication industry. The change in storage from the fixed
