They are known to be intimate since most people will first identify it. These include the family, schools and church groups. This level deals with day to day activities and interactions of people in the society. It outlines the roles that we take in the society as well as our perception. In this level, the level of focus is on how individual think and not on how they behave. This level outlines the ideas of how a society should be, the behaviors, and norms that enable it to be recognized. Indicators such as socialization, sanctions, rituals, and segregation of activities are just examples on how an individual should interact in the society since they give the directions on what is expected.
Mezzo level does not deal with large societies. This is the middle ground of both the micro and macro like communities and neighbors. It also deals with the segmentation within the society. This segmentation can be carried out on basis such as income, ethnicity. This level includes certain institutions such as jail, smaller sets of people with various guidelines for organization. Macro level refers to the largest of the groupings. It studies the society as a whole. It is in this level that society problems begin and hence the interest. From the Clementi story, we can argue and reflect certain issues that affect the daily lives of individual in society. Argument 1 Men and women have different ways of understanding issues. From the story of Clementi, we find the parents had different opinion upon realizing that their son was gay. Each took a different direction despite the fact that this was their son. (Crammer, pg 31) For instance, we are told that their father understood while the mother had difficulty accepting that her son was gay.
The father apart from accepting took an initiative to discuss the topic of sexuality with his son while the mother reacted in a way that she completely rejected her son and yet the two were responsible for the upbringing of the boy. From this story, it is clear that men do have a sense of understanding in some issues compared to women. Argument 2 Discrimination in the society, Society has come up with what is good and what is bad. This has really affected individuals because it means that going against the values and norms an individual will be treated as a bad person.
The church being part of the society has also come up with its own values. For example, you are expected to be Holy and free from sins. This makes it hard for individuals to be what they are leading to pretence. This is because you have defined values to follow and failure to do so; you are not worth being in the society. In Clements story, we can see the results of what the society has put in place as the guiding principles. First there was silent suffering leading to psychological torture of Clement, Occurrence of death due to suicide because exposing the idea of gay meant that you are a sinner.
(Crocker, pg16) This also had an effect of bringing shame into the family as portrayed by the mother since she was a Christian. In this story, we get to know the conflict between Christianity and the community. Each has a different look towards gay people. The church had disciplinary measures towards gay people while community saw it as a normal life style. In my view, I think that the church should not be the first to condemn such vices in the society
