I was particularly interested in the toddlers playing at the park, because they were already physically active and quite talkative. They were nearer to me too, and I could observe them better. Two mothers and a father had toddlers with them. One white mother was with an infant and a toddler, and one black father had a toddler and another kid, most probably five years old. An Asian, brown woman had two toddlers; they were female identical twins with matching light pink dresses. These adults seemed to be the parents, because of the resemblance with these children.
I wondered if they knew each other, but realized that they did not, because they did not greet each other. Their toddlers, however, soon warmed up to one another. I heard their names, because they soon became friends. The Asian twins were Liza and Mary. The black toddler was Mark, while his brother was Larry. The white toddler was Arthur. Arthur was the biggest of the toddlers. His white skin was pinkish and he had a blue sweater and corduroy pants. He went to the swing and sat tentatively. He watched Liza and Mary, who were dancing and chanting in their native language (not English) around two meters away from him.
He seemed to be humming as they sang. Mark went to Arthur and sat beside him in another swing. Mark wore a brown sweater and blue pants. He was thinner than Arthur. Larry went to the monkey bars and played with kids his age. Mark smiled at Arthur, but Arthur must have been shy, because he looked down at his shoes when he had eye contact with Mark. Liza and Mary walked toward Arthur and Mark. Mark told them: “Hi, I'm Mark, do you wanna play with me?” Liza looked at Mark seriously, while Mary said: “I'm Mary and this is Liza.
Oh sure, what can you play? Can you sing with us? We're singing rhymes at school!” Mark replied: “Me too! Where's your school?” Liza answered: “We don't talk to strangers.” Mary giggled and said: “Liza! He's just like us. She's my big sister you see, so she's awfully protective. Our school is right there.” She pointed somewhere. Mark looked and his face showed he understood. Liza nodded: “Yup, I am the big sis, but I'm no sissy.” Mark smiled and said: “I'm harmless! I go to a school near you.
My teacher is Teacher Aizel.” Liza sized him up from head to toe and said: “Okay, let's sing and dance 'Mary Had a Little Lamb!” Mark stood up and sang with them. They went around in circles and laughed along the way. He stopped after the song and asked Arthur to join them. Arthur looked toward his mother, who nodded her approval. She seemed to have been watching these kids interact. Arthur walked slowly toward them and said: “Hi, I'm Arthur. Can I join you?” Mary and Arthur said yes together.
Liza looked at him and frowned: “I know you. You go to other class, right?” Arthur answered: “Yes.” Liza said: “Ah, I saw you draw! I love the yellow and blue birds you made!” Arthur blushed and said: “Uhm, thanks.” Liza took his hand and they sang another tune. Their parents were quite busy with their own activities. Arthur’s mother was nursing and humming to her infant. Mark’s father was on his laptop then on his cell phone. Liza and Mary’s mother already had another companion with her.
I must have missed her coming to the park. She seemed to be the same race as Liza with brown complexion, black hair, short height, and big, black eyes. They were laughing as they watched the kids. Liza left the group and went to her mother. She hugged her mother and whispered
