? SOCIAL WORK By Presented to Due Introduction Introduction Inter-professional capacity refers to one’s ability to work collaboratively with practitioners from other professions. As a result, one becomes a collaborative worker because he or she is able to adopt values in an organization and work collaboratively with others. In most cases, according to professionals, it is necessary to work collaboratively in order to obtain the set objectives, and ensure proper reputation of the organization. This is even more common in social and health care service providers who aim at providing quality service to its clients. On the other hand, Gibb’s reflexive model is one of the most popular reflection models that involve six steps (Bulman 2004, p.9). In this model, emotions are some of the issues in consideration. In this paper, aim is to use Gibb’s reflective cycle and the Inter professional Capability Framework to explain how my knowledge, skills and attitudes considered on this module will enable me to become an effective member of an inter professional team in my working environment. Reflection of the Group Activity Work I will be applying the Gibs reflective cycle to reflect on the group activity that I was part of. This will include a short description, my feelings of the activity, evaluation, analysis, conclusion, and action plan. Description (What Happened?) (Nurse and social worker) Action plan Feelings (If it came up again, what would you do?) (What were you thinking and feeling?) (Diagnostic radiographers, radiotherapy radiographers, (Diagnostic radiographers) Paramedics, physiotherapists, Midwives, nurses and social workers ) Evaluation Conclusion (What was good and bad about the experience?) (Radiotherapy radiographers) (Paramedics) Analysis What decision can I make regarding the situation? (Physiotherapists) Description We were to suppose that we were diagnosing a patient and applying Gibs cycle draw a chart indicating where each one of us in their assumed roles would fit in. This was to give us a pictorial view of how health workers are supposed to undertake their roles. We imagined of a scenario whereby a patient as guidelines by the government was in a critical condition (Sines, Saunders and Forbes-Burford 2009, p.9). This exercise was it aimed at enhancing and developing our collaborative skills. In this stage e had to assume the responsibilities of different health workers such as diagnostic radiographers, radiotherapy radiographers, paramedics. In this stage the social worker were to search for any relevant information regarding the mock patient (Quinn 2000, p.99). Feelings In the exercise initially I felt that this was just a waste of time. I thought why we should draw a diagram and picture ourselves attending a patient instead of taking part in a real life scenario. I was also adamant in the first place as the group colleagues we were not very much acquainted with each other. Furthermore, we had different backgrounds and as such we had communication challenge to deal with. In spite of these, as time passed by I got to appreciate and enjoy the group activity as I came to understand the objective was to develop our communication and collaborative skills which are very important in our profession as health workers. Evaluation Through the group work exercise, I have come to appreciate the importance of collaborative work of professionals. In the past, I thought mixed professional groups would be a challenge while dealing with patients, but I was proved wrong. Though there are challenges in terms of communication, through proper team management and adherence to code of ethics, it is more effective and efficient handling cases in a team of experts. In our we group we developed a rules which were to be abided by while undertaking the group project to overcome the challenge of communication diversity, lack of cooperation and other minor challenges. I have come to appreciate and love working in mixed professional group this is because one gets to learn a lot from the other professionals. Personally, though a social worker I got a chance to learn from the mock diagnostic radiographers, radiotherapy radiographers, paramedics, physiotherapists, midwives, nurses. This I believe had a great impact in my professional life since as per now and time coming as I continue partaking of inter-professional teamwork , as it will mould me to be a well rounded social worker who can assist in minor tasks outside my specialization. The main advantages that I noted of working were collaborative efforts i.e. exchange of ideas ,learning from one another and fast execution of tasks, effective and efficient delivery of services to patients. I learnt that trust, harmonious cooperation and respect among members of a team is very vital in the success of a team. This is because without these the team will not work collaboratively and as a result will not attain its objective efficiently. Through the group activity I need to develop listening and communication skills as these play a vital role also in determining success of a team especially in the stage Evaluation Analysis and diagnosis stage. Analysis The group work activity was not all smooth as I pointed out earlier due to lack of trust, competition among colleagues and lack of collaboration of some of the members. Though as e progressed due to the desire to succeed and also drawing from what e had learned in this unit we grew to be a collaborative and very effective group. It got to a point where I aspired to work with the same group in a real case. This is because our communication in the group was characterized by understanding and cooperation in the exercise. These skills are essential even in the analysis of a case to ascertain whether there are any unforeseen health problems or the patient is in normal health situation (Mohanna 2010, p.78). I observed that it is vital that for any health practitioner to succeed in his career he or she had to learn to work in a team of professionals. In addition, for quality service to be administered to a patient all the health professionals involved have to be in agreement over the mode of treatment and also the diagnosis. Furthermore, I learnt that there also has to be a lead physician who should be entitled to lead the team of professionals. The physician should be well versed with knowledge of diagnosis and treatments and again respected by the team members. He should provide leadership and management to the team. This is because as our team initially was struggling with challenges mentioned above I appreciated the need of there being a leader in the team to bring about direction and objectivity in the team. In case our group earlier on we had this idea in mind we would have attained our objective fast enough, though this was a learning experience. Action Plan Through the group activity I am confident of myself that in future as I get an opportunity to work in my profession my services will be better. This is because I have had the opportunity to learn about my weakness and strengths and from other practitioners. In addition, this will enable me to determine if I can implement some of these advices to better the services that I offer for the benefit of the entire organization (Reeves, Lewin, Espin and Zwarenstein 2010, p.9). I also long to working several groups so that I can advance my communication skills and also learn several aspects of the professional career ahead. Finally, I hope to improve my collaborative skills as we proceed in our studies. Conclusion In an organization, inter-professional capacity is essential to ensure that employees in an organization work collaboratively. Employees are said to have worked collaboratively when they are able to engage in a partnership with other professionals or with those, they claim to care. This is so because; it is not possible to have only one professional working alone and be able to meet the set objectives. This is even clear in the example I have used to demonstrate Gibb’s Reflexive cycle. In that case, I was not involved alone in handling the woman who was involved in a fall. As a result, due to partnership with my colleagues, we were able to secure the woman's life. Based on the analysis of the example, I have been able to learned and appreciated that it is vital to engage others in the organization if we aim at achieving the set objectives. This is so because, through application expertise and skills of other members in a way that is integrated way then we will manage to ensure that needs of the organization and the patients are met. In most of the social and health care organizations emphasis are laid on the importance of working collaboratively (Callara 2008, p.8). According to most of the scholars, working collaboratively has significance. As a result, due to this significant, I have been evidence that it is important to ensure this in our organization. This is so because ideas are shared enabling effective operation and easy achievement of the set objectives. In addition, collaborative working involves working in partnership with other people by use of other community members practice. It is by use of interpersonal skills that promote effective communication that ensures that partners communicate together effectively to ensure the achievement of set goals. Reflection, on the other hand, tries to highlight the significant of reflective capability, while promote members critical awareness. In this case, emphasis is on the reflection process as it helps in promoting collaborative performance of employees in an organization (Brotherton and Parker 2008, p.30). Indeed, it is essential to ensure a reasonable relationship in an organization. This will help ensure that easy development of appropriate inter-professional relationship. Some of the main importance of working together in an organization as professionals and support staffs has been of immense relevance. This will enable me to become an effective member of an inter-professional team in my working environment. The skills obtained will enable me to know that, it is not possible for one to work alone in the organization and achieve the set objectives. This has been noted because; it is necessary to get ideas from other individuals working with me. This support can be in the form of ideas and even the physical support where necessary (Davies and Finlay 2000, p.99). This way, we will manage to work to the fulfillment of the targets within the organization. In addition, I understood the fact that inter-professional Capability Framework is able to define the capabilities that govern inter-professionals working together. This even more prevalent amongst social and health care professionals; because such individuals are handling issues of other peoples’ lives. As a result, corporation is of considerable significant. In most cases, people have lead emphasis on the much that can result due to inter-professional capability (Brotherton and Parker 2008, p.44). This issue includes 1. Offering of quality services to the patients this is so because this one of the reasons as to why a health service providing centre exists. 2. It will ensure that the organization is in a position of achieving its mission vision together with the set objectives. 3. Sharing of ideas will help facilitate operation that could otherwise not be possible with the ideas of one individual. Conclusion In conclusion, it is worth nothing that throughout the study of the significant of inter-professional skills, I have been able to note that collaborative working is key to the success of social work and also other aspects of life. This is more so to the professionals working in social and health care providing centers. In addition, it is necessary because such professionals are handling critical issues related with other peoples’ lives. As a result, caution is necessary to avoid the possibility of being expelled from the medical profession (Brooker and Nicol 2003, p.98). To the social workers like me, I have known that it is necessary to work closely with others as this will be an opportunity to learn new things and will enhance my capacity to do my duties with the highest professionalism. In addition, through the collaborative services, the organization will be successful. In this case, I will be of immense significant in ensuring that the organization meets its objectives. As mentioned earlier, in most cases, according to various scholars, it is necessary to work collaboratively in order to obtain the set objectives, and ensure proper reputation of the organization. This is even more common in social and health care service providers who aim at providing quality service to its clients.
