tions, V and I are directly proportional to each other, and therefore R and G are constant (although they can depend on other factors like temperature or strain). This proportionality is called Ohms law, and materials that satisfy it are called "Ohmic" materials. In other cases, such as a diode or battery, V and I are not directly proportional, or in other words the I–V curve is not a straight line through the origin, and Ohms law does not hold. In this case, resistance and conductance are less useful concepts, and more difficult to define.

The ratio V/I is sometimes still useful, and is referred to as a "chordal resistance" or "static resistance", as it corresponds to the inverse slope of a chord between the origin and an I–V curve. In other situations, the derivative dV/dI may be most useful; this is called the "differential

Major American Deserts

Another characteristic of deserts is that they experience very high levels of evaporation from the earth's surface and transpiration from plants.... The reason for this is that due to low levels of precipitation, there is very little clouds to reflect back the sun rays, therefore much of the sun rays actually reach the earth's surface....

The Definitions

Typically, the surface facing the wind has a gradual slope.... However, the surrounding area is affected by weathering, and therefore the surface lowers gradually over time.... These accumulate over time, and the surface can become porous.... Similarly, due to this effect, an object traveling in a straight line close to the Earth will be moving in a curved path relative to any particular surface on the Earth....

Engineering Materials: Modes of Failure

The atoms at the surface form fever bonds as they do not have many neighboring atoms compared to those in the interior part of the material implying that surface atoms are at a higher energy.... The adjacent parts of the material separate as a result of high stresses normal to the surface of the fracture....

Understanding of the Patterns and Shapes Formed when Blood Droplets Impact Upon Various Surfaces

The factors essential to be recorded in a bloodstain pattern analysis in order to have a correct interpretation of a bloodstain pattern include the overall shape of the pattern, the shape of blood spatter, absorbance properties of the substrate, surface characteristics of the substrate, and the texture of the substrate (The Forensic Library, 2017).... Because drops of blood demonstrate cohesion forces or surface tension, they drop at an angle which may also be affected by the surface of impact (Bevel & Gardner, 2008)....
