Process Quality Engineering List and explain two reasons why team based management is so important. a) Improving Efficiency and Quality In a team, all the members are experts or professionals in different fields. Teamwork will allow the contribution from all experts thereby enhancing its abilities. The management at times lacks knowledge or information about the process, the employees will help at such instances. b) Building Morale Employees encourage each other while working as a team. The employees feel valued when the management recognizes and credits their work and efforts that result to increased productivity. 2) Why might change not be well received by some employees? When the working conditions are good for the employees, they fear the risks of changes. There are uncertainties when changes are made to processing, timing, or the management. The employees fear that changes may be accompanied by bad things. 3) How can quality be defined and measured? Quality can be defined as the limiting of differences between the product and the production process. The expectations and needs of the consumers must be met to acquire the quality status. Quality can be checked through customer satisfaction and statistical analysis. Quality can also be measured through efficiency. Efficiency is examined by evaluating the resources such as land, labor, and machines. A decrease in labor, variation, and warrant costs are an indication good quality in the products. 4) List two Kaizen principles, how they should be implemented and their benefits to the company as well as product quality. a) Total Quality Management Managers oversee the functioning and processes within the company. They control all components in the company including the workers. Although they control everything within the company, it is not necessarily that they are involved in everything. The managers interact and consider the employees’ suggestions and ideas. When total quality management is implemented well, sales increase and the quality improves because employees are aware of their duties. b) Five S Housekeeping (Seiri, Seiton, Seiketsu, Seiso, Shitsuke) The five s housekeeping technique is crucial as its values of orderliness and standardization help enhance employees’ productivity and guiding them. Management increases efficiency and quality in everything in a short period. Cleaning improves sanity and safety that reduces accidents within the production process. Self-discipline ensures that employees remain faithful to their duties and improve the image of the company. Improving the standards of the company requires a set of ethics and rules to be established which the employees can follow. Ethics and rules put the management and employees in the same level which eliminates various problems. 5) List three of Deming’s principles and identify their benefits to quality. a) Constancy of purpose: it plays a role in the reduction of variations. Its overall results are improved quality. It is implemented in a way that eliminates risks as a result of changes. b) Search for problems: a company that evaluates itself in search of problems fixes them before they act against the company. Solving problems in time helps eliminate issues with customers. Fixing the problems improves the quality of products. c) Training to keep up with changes in methods: Training helps keep the employees up to date with the dynamic environment of the workplace. In today’s world, industries are changing while new techniques and technologies are invented. Training improves production and equips the company with better concepts of satisfying the customers. 6) Describe how a company can compare itself to other companies in their industry in terms of quality. Any company that needs to compare itself with the others in the industry must conduct a statistical analysis. Customer satisfaction by different companies can be done using pools. The company can also achieve this by comparing the amount of products and the resources used to produce them. Calculating and examining the total sales of the company and checking the progress can be used as a means of comparison with the other companies. 7) Describe how statistics might be used to increase the quality. Statistics can check the efficiency of certain workers or machines. Where issues arise, the management solves them and seeks ways of improving. Statistics can examine errors in the product. If the errors in the product are many, the company can change its method of production. Statistics analyzes customer satisfaction by conducting polls. If the polls reveal that the customers are not satisfied, the company management seeks new ways of meeting the customers’ expectations. 8) Describe a situation where the use of statistics and/or analysis may not be appropriate. Statistics is a good tool for analyzing data. Statistics is, however, not suitable for analyzing small sample sizes or where the outcomes are biased. Using statistics in such circumstances gives skewed results. Statistics also tends to be invalid where a test has many control variables as it is hard to keep things constant. An example where statistics would not be valid for use is in evaluating the performance of the machine while exposed to an environment with varying weather conditions. In such a case, the machine would not display consistency and it would, therefore, be difficult to draw appropriate conclusions from the resulting data. 9) Explain how good employee workstations and employee efficiency contribute to the quality Workstations should be well equipped and neat. Managers are of the view that employees desert their workstations if is some things are missing or malfunctioning. Improving the conditions at workstations minimizes time wastage, but improves efficiency. Improving the workstation’s environment is important as it improves the quality of products. Employees dedicate most of their time to innovation and production if the time spent in searching for materials is reduced. When employees work without disruptions, they increase productivity will low inputs and decreased variation. Read More
