According to Giulio & Bozinovski (2007, p. 128), when prefabricated components (cables included) are used during construction, there will be no need of using formwork, scaffolding and shuttering. The researchers further explained that the use of prefabricated components for construction purposes normally reduce the time taken for construction, therefore, there is likelihood that the project will generate high returns of the amount of money invested on the project. The researcher also explained that using these prefabricated component make the construction site ‘clean’, that is, the construction site remains uncongested.
Some researchers such as Bruggeling (2007, p. 23 ) explained that the quality of prefabricated materials and components are easy to control and check since they are manufactured in the factory. The researcher argue that the quality check and control are normally easy in within the factories than within the construction sites; therefore, prefabricated components are more likely to be of high quality as compared to the ones being fabricated on the construction site (Bruggeling 2007, p. 23 ). Further according to Smith (2010, p. 7), the use of prefabricated components in construction processes normally leads to less wastage of the construction materials since materials are designed to fit into their positions.
Some scientists such as Bruggeling (2007, p. 23 ), argue that the prefabricated components can be used in sites where cost of power, space, labour, overheads and construction materials are lower. It is also suitable for sites in which individuals who are skilled are few. The researcher further added that sandwich materials such as shock absorbers, sound absorbers and thermal insulations can be easily added between the prefabricated materials while they are being installed. The on-site fabricated components on the other hand, once installed no advanced material can be added; the materials can only be included during the
