The use of the aforementioned techniques helps patients to develop healthy and positive thinking during the drug treatment process and the recovery. People can attain positive and constructive changes in their lives if they embrace the complementary healing approaches. In essence, the integrative healing process enhances patients’ happiness, success, health, energy, and attainment of life satisfaction. Music Therapy Music therapy is essential evidence-based and clinical employment of music interventions to attain the individualized goals while promoting the treatment and recovery process. Notably, the use of music therapy enhances the therapeutic relationship critical in addressing the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social needs of the patients. Listening to the excellent music tend to strengthen the clients’ abilities to foster a positive life during the treatment process. Clients present an increased motivation to engage in their treatment by listening to music. Emotional support is important in the achievement of full treatment and enhancement of happiness. Music offers the emotional support to both clients and families by providing the significant outlet for the clients to express their feelings. Gordon foresees a time when pharmacies will stock CDs instead of drugs (73). Such prediction indicates that music therapy will be an integral aspect of the process of caring the patients. Gordon brings the element of water that has the power to promote healing. Music therapy facilitates the improvement of the patients’ health in various facets. Notably, the therapy targets the social and motor skills, cognitive functioning, and emotional development in the endeavor to optimize quality of life. Positive attitude complements the music therapy. Gordon emphasizes the significance of people embracing a positive image as they look forward to attaining complete healing process (73). In essence, music therapy is important in managing stress, alleviating pain, expressing feelings, improving communication, promoting wellness, and enhancing memory. The use of music therapy for individuals, groups, and families makes the integrative therapy a universal choice in the health care delivery. Guided Imagery and Meditation Guided imagery and meditation entails a therapeutic intervention that facilitates individuals to visualize suggested things. The integrative healing process creates psychological, as well as, physiological healing. Shamans and priests have been instrumental in leading people to attain healing process by assisting them through a series of images or visualizations. Fundamentally, the guided imagery and meditation stimulates the subconscious part of the brain to express itself. Essentially, guided imagery and meditation achieves mental calmness by focusing on the subconscious and mind. The roles of the shamans and priest in the community are well elaborated. Notably, the two play different roles such as the healers, diviners, and guides in the community. Specifically, the shamans’ journey to the transcendent world enables them to deliver various services such as diagnosing and treating illness, divination and prophesy, and giving advice solicited from the spirits (Harner 9). It is worth noting that the interaction between the shamans and the spirits is voluntary, and the latter work under the altered state of consciousness unlike the priests. Guided imagery and meditation have the power to relax stress and worry that typify community life. The visualizations tend to induce positive emotions, which allow individuals’ bodies to heal both physiological, as well as, physical illness. Perhaps, people should embrace shamanism because it promotes healthier lifestyles. Fundamentally, the medical circles have accepted guided imagery and meditation as integrative healing processes. The imagery and meditation enable the entire mind to focus on recovery. In essence, the process helps the patients to stimulate the mind to attain calm and healthy state that eradicates the stress. Stress is an impediment to the recovery process. In effect, the guided imagery and meditation helps in the reduction of the power that stress presents to one’s mind. The complementary therapy promotes mental wellbeing and significant results in attainment of physical health. Although westerners display ignorance in adopting shamanism, the integrative healing practice is a critical aspect in enhancing the treatment and recovery. Laughter and Humor Therapy Laughter utilizes humor to promote wellness and overall health. The intent of the laughter as an integrative healing process is to relieve the emotional and physical discomfort in people. The humorous exercises have an enormous potential for alleviating pain and inducing the process of attaining physical wellness. It is acknowledged that laughter and humor have the power to improve the quality of life for the patients suffering from chronic illness. Kanigel points out that laughter and yoga relieve stress, promote positive thinking, boost immunity, and reduce incidences of depression (3). Primarily, laughter adjusts physiological processes, body chemistry, and promotes happiness. The noteworthy physiological processes, which laughter aids encompass, increase in the circulation systems, muscle exercise, and revitalization of the brain. Notably, the belly laugh induces anesthetic effects that lead to stress-free sleep. Deep breathing complements the laughter and humor therapy. In effect, the mode of breathing greatly affects one’s health. The slow, deep breathing reduces stress. The oxygen exchange at the lower part of the lungs improves the various organs of the body such as the mind, heart, and blood vessels. Hence, breathing promotes a sense of control, and serves as a therapeutic process. Krucoff argues that healthy breathing lowers the incidences of increased blood pressure and arrhythmias. Similarly, deep diaphragmatic breathing lowers the chances of contracting the premenstrual syndrome, depression, and anxiety (66). In contrast, the poor mode of breathing induces stress and other deleterious physiological activities in the body. In women, yoga remarkably reduces the intensity of hot flashes. The aging process affects the healthy breathing by straining the lungs and overworking the heart. In essence, laughter in combination with the deep, relaxation breathing contributes positively to the wellness of individuals. Color and Chakra Healing Color tends to stimulate energy and invigorate the brain. The color therapy infuses energy into the body. The employment of the color therapy as a complementary therapy can greatly promote the recovery process. Fundamentally, the color therapy employs visible spectrum to promote the healing process. According to the doctrine of color therapy, body comprises of colors that undergo stimulation. The colors play an integral function in the optimum working of many parts of the body. The colors have frequencies, and different parts of the body vibrate and harmonize with vibrational energies. The deviation from the normal vibrations leads to ill health. The selective application of the colors to the impaired organs and systems generate healing energy needed by the body. Hence, the color therapy facilitates the balancing of the body systems and the organs in patients. The chakras elicit energy by using colors. Each color is associated with a particular color. The color therapy works with each color in different chakras to assist in balancing the energy, as well as, maintaining the wellbeing. In essence, the color therapy restores the optimum balance of the color energies in the body, and promotes the normal functioning of various organs. Forgiveness and Self-discovery Forgiveness enhances the quality of life by reducing stress. Forgiveness should be voluntary, rather than the inducement. As a complementary therapy, forgiveness mitigates many diseases. Notably, forgiveness boosts immunity and invigorates the body and the brain. It is important for the health caregivers to promote forgiveness in order to diagnose, plan, intervene, and evaluate the health needs of the patients (Fester 78). The ability to offer emotional support to patients is critically significant in delivering quality health care. It is significant to note that self-forgiveness elicits self-control, and initiates the recovery process. Self-discovery and self-healing tend to complement forgiveness as a complementary therapy. The health caregivers have a prime responsibility to guide patients to be truthful and honest in the process of attaining self-discovery. Notably, self-discovery is the bedrock of the self-healing. Patients attain permanent healing, as well as, spiritual growth by discovering their worth (Upledger 68). Therefore, it is crucial for patients to recognize the importance of the inner voice. Any act directed towards suppressing the inner voice hinders the treatment and recovery process. Enhancement of the communication between the patients and the caregivers initiates the healing process. In addition, information on the significance of embracing the self-discovery enables the patients to devise informed decisions. In essence, the self-discovery offers the patients with a clear picture of what to do to actualize the healing process by eliminating self-pity. In reflection, the complementary therapies are critical in delivering quality health care. The healthcare facilities should embrace the music therapy, guided imagery and meditation, laughter and humor therapy, color and chakra healing to attain a holistic treatment and recovery process. The therapies should augment the traditional treatment methods in order to alleviate pain and give patients quality life. Health living a right for everyone, and thus the physicians should not ignore the highlighted complementary therapies. Making the planet a healthier place to live should be a duty of everybody.
