Skill Audit and Personal Development Plan Task I am a Civil Engineering I am committed to achieving the best in the course and my future profession. I have some skills that can help me achieve high profile project success. However, I am not that good in leadership of working as a team. Fortunately, I believe that the development of skills and personal planning is the helm of a successful academic guru, as well as, professional vis-à-vis the commercial and technical world. I am Civil Engineering (Bachelor of Science) student. Accordingly, most of the things that I ought to take into consideration include facilitating professionally oriented skills. The paramount skills include teamwork. It includes working together with colleagues. Resultantly, the development of this skill will ultimately show focus on the career development. Personal Skills audit Already existent personal skills I have the skills to comprehend the processes that entail the civil engineering practices. It means that the scholar work may not prove to be complex to me. However, my profession as a civil engineering student demands that there is dire need for intervention and further analysis of the rest of the skills that constitute a successful future. I understand that it has to happen right here when I am undertaking my course. Accordingly, the free will participate in most of the practices affiliated with Civil Engineering still exist. Additionally, I understand that civil engineering is a technical course. The future of the course remains to bear an entirety of practical works. Initially, I believe my ability to seek clarifications on issues pending is entirely apprehensible. Precisely, the zeal, to seek for solutions, is one of the skills that I have found very important in the process of building my career as a Civil Engineer. Most importantly, continued research into books is one of the skills that I have been very good. I relentlessly express this academic sentiment with regards a historical reference from my grade instructors. Personal Communication skills audit I usually focus on establishing a definite and committed position whenever issues are underway and demand solutions. For instance, the course and the profession in entirety require proficiency in mathematical skills. The ICE development objectives confine within myriad behavioural concepts. Accordingly, I consider it to be a very sensitive thing to consider the level of expertise and proficiency maintained within my current stance as a Civil Engineering student. My problem-solving skill is appropriate. It is quite obvious that complex construction and engineering mathematics require joint efforts to solve them. Alternatively, comparison of results and entering into a consensus is a paramount thing in the profession. However, there are moments where I deplete off the need to relate to others in solving the problems. An admissive position from my point of view is that I have not proved to be good in team playing and communicating with fellow mates. Professionally, I believe that this is a threat to the zeal that I have towards achieving greater heights as a successful Civil Engineer. In fact, the Institution of Civil Engineers demands that the art of communication and working in joint positions remains a paramount element in the profession. I am quite acquainted with what it takes for a professional Civil Engineer. Scholarly and professional ethics requires that self-management is paramount in such a crucial engineering program and profession. I have been on my heels to ensure that substantial and reliable self-management surpasses absolute ignorance on the main issues related to developing a professional Civil Engineer after taking studies. Arguably, I have reputable self-management that I emphasize at the expense of creating time and conditions for the joint solution finding. Team work (Working with others) skills audit A thorough instigation into what technical know-how entails takes a crucial role in identifying how much I get acquainted with it. The most basic property of this profession is that it is a construction-affiliated profession. Therefore, the feasibility and probability of failure is highly not entertain able. I have an average grip on the necessary art and level of responsibility. The standard of responsibility gets highly reduced by the fact that I have a poor interrelations capacity. The ICE provides the structure training directive to sustain the responsibility levels required (Civil Engineer ICE 3005A - Development Objectives-Institution of Civil Engineers 2014). In most cases, I fail to manage grouped responsibilities. Thus, my ability to express or communicate my technical knowledge becomes the deterring factor. Personal Leadership skills audit I understand that there are myriad skills that are paramount in the context of establishing a bright future in Civil Engineering. Accordingly, I am concerned with the rate at which I manage to lead ad conduct project participants. Precisely, I always have a strict watch over my leadership skills. Communication intermarries with other related matters such as employing appropriate interrelations with fellow mates. Thus, being a team player is a desirable and recommendable skill. Communication, according to mere understanding, is the helm of leadership competencies. Thus, I admit having good self-management skills. However, the communications or leadership skills are amicably inadequate. Task 2 Development Action Plan Objective I perceive that the development of the personal development plan serves the right purpose of identifying the skills necessary to execute a successful future project. Thus, it requires that the skills audited get revised and the best proposals get made. Thus, appropriate recommendations can get made. The skills audit process is the basis for making future projections and plans vis-à-vis the appropriate step to take in ensuring a successful career. A successful career comprises of effective management and actualization of future civil engineering projects. The Institute of Civil Engineering considers the art of communication as one of the major elements of succeeding in future projects (Civil Engineer ICE 3005A - Development Objectives - Institution of Civil Engineers 2014). Future skills and knowledge My personal skill audit is a clear guide towards the best approach towards my future project endeavours. In this section, it is appropriate to consider the unsteady, yet that I have. For instance, the level competency affiliated with communication and team work is not well established in me. In the recent projects and class endeavours, my ability to promote teamwork has been very poor. In addition, the art of joint responsibility is not part of the referable past. My Future project will require that I acquire better leadership, communication, and group work skills to ensure that they get achieved. Precisely, I have to upgrade the current skills to a better level of competence. For instance, the level of communication is very paramount. A perfect situation is where I have to communicate by ideologies concerning a construction project (Clegg & Bradley 2006). The best baseline to achieve this is by considering the outline three Institution of Civil Engineering objectives. Accordingly, I rate differently with regards to each of the objectives and capacity to employ the skills in developing the project. Action (execution) and resources My plan to improve my skills and professionalism depends on the three ICE objectives. The next step that supersedes auditing of the skills will be executing of better communication skills. First, I will reinforce the communication strategy to ensure that I can communicate ideas pertaining the execution of the project. Thus, it implies the need to observe the objective of tabling discussions amongst team members of the project. It can only get achieved when I engage in continued course discussions with other classmates. In addition, other preliminary discussions will increase the ability to share opinions during the process of carrying out future project. Communicating with others will facilitate the achievement of a second ICE objective (Civil Engineer ICE 3005A - Development Objectives - Institution of Civil Engineers 2014). Precisely, I will emphasize in working effectively with others. For instance, tabling of ideas is one channel of working with others. However, I will manage to work with other project mates after ensuring and acquiring appropriate communication skills (Clegg & Bradley 2006). Thus, teamwork and leadership will get facilitated. The execution of the projects in the future civil engineering will require joint responsibility for issues. Accordingly, technical knowledge will get improved in the context of increased discussion. The quality and feasibility of success in projects in the future rely on the current and immediate efforts to work on the competencies. A perfect example is teamwork that is very appropriate to the scene of construction projects. Arguably, this may take a period of half a year or upon completion of the course. However, joint responsibility is key. Evaluating the success of the outcome I now understand that it is beyond obvious that civil engineering projects, among other projects, cannot fare well in the absence of appropriate leadership and communication skills. I will assess the rate at which I have succeeded in executing projects. Thus, the number of my successful projects will serve the best proof of outstand skills. For instance, I will ensure that I record the progress of projects as I undertake them. However, the recording of these projects will occur after I have adopted better and stronger communication, teamwork and leadership skills. Affirmative growth and appreciation of the value of projects that I will undertake will serve the purpose of showing the successful incorporation of communication, leadership and teamwork skills.
