Extract of sample "Cheating on the Exam"

Paper Richard Quinn could not take the fact that a third of his could cheat in an exam. He gave a passionate lecture about cheating on exam and ordered those who cheated not to ask him anything again. He says “To say I’m disappointed is beyond comprehension.” He also explains how he is disillusioned and disgusted when he figured out his last 20 years. He goes ahead to order all the students to sit for a remedial class irrespective of their conscious. He advised those who cheated to attend ethics class or face suspension and expulsion. Professor Richard Quinn acted after detecting that students at University of Florida assessed the answers to the mid-term tests. After thorough analysis, he realized that student’s average marks went high by one and a half. This aroused his suspicion and after preliminary investigations he knew what was going on. He has given students up to Monday to surrender when he expects the Academic affairs to take up the matter. Professor is so passionate about the issue that he tells the students who did not cheat that they have his undying attitude. 2. Having worked for more than 20 years, Professor did not expect to face instances of students cheating in his class. He believes in developing professions who can make sound rationale judgment in the job market. He starts by saying that; lecture on cheating was one of the lectures he never wanted to give. In this scenario, I agree with the Professor. Exams are meant to gauge whether students really understood what they learnt in class. Exams make no value when students either cheat or have answers in prior. Cheating makes institutions produce half baked professionals. 3. Cheating is prohibited by almost all institutions across the globe. Cheating and plagiarism are some of the most serious crimes in the academic field. As presented in the video, university places serious emphasis with regards to cheating. The fact that they could detect and the professor could narrow on the culprits indicates the level of seriousness university place on cheating. When he reports the incidence to the institution, the dean and the academic affairs begins conducting investigations with the view of taking an action. The university places a lot of emphasis because cheating in an exam is unprofessional, unethical and the end result cannot be used to gauge whether the student really understands the subject matter. 4. The university has the sole responsibility of ensuring safe custody of the exams. Any time lecturers expect to set exams, they should ensure that they have prepared all that is pertained to ethical issues. When students manage to access these papers, it means that the systems are flawed and the administration did not do its work. Students should be treated on individual basis with regards to cheating. Forcing the entire class to redo the course is a violation of their rights and should not be entertained. If participated in cheating then the university should admit it and be forgiven or face the university law. 5. Humans are social beings and so our behavior affects those surrounding us. As a student, the behavior of cheating in exams impacts negatively on my reputation. Through my actions, other students are force to go through an exam they already prepared for. The unprofessional behavior also affects the reputation of the university. Both my friends and family members will also be negatively affected as they will be wondering the reasons I’m in school if I must be so unethical. 6. My purpose and values as a student is to have a professional understanding and knowledge in my field. The intention is to have expertise knowledge. Remaining true to the values and purpose is guided by ethical behaviors. Anything unethical impacts this negatively. The behavior of cheating in exam, therefore never fit in my purpose and values as a student. Cheating interferes with professional development of a student. 7. One of my main academic goals is to have a clear object and fundamental skills in my field. I will identify the program I am enrolled in and have a clear outline of a course to study. Apart from preparing to pass the exams, I am also committed to dedicate two hours on weekly basis in studying each hour of every class. My long term personal goal is to ensure that I have required knowledge that will enable me have professional understanding in my field and become an expert. 8. No employer supports cheating or any other unethical behavior. Being a professional and a young person, my future employer expects the best from me. If an employer gets that I was involved in any unethical behavior like cheating in exam, they will definitely doubt my understanding of my current roles. If the names of those cheated are circulated to the employer, it will be a tall order for any affected party to secure a job. If one can cheat in exam, it is likely that he bring similar behaviors to the organization. 9. Ethics plays a fundamental role in career development. Believing in your personnel strength and working on the weaknesses is the best way to remain true to the duty. From Professor Richard Quinn lecture, I have learnt that it is not only wrong to cheat in exams but also ruins personnel and university’s reputation. The university’s regulations rules are very clear when it comes to cheating. When found, a student can either be suspended or expelled. Therefore my responsibility as a student is to ensure that I remain honest in all that I do. 10. As discussed cheating in exams is a serious crime. When shared with my employer, it will definitely ruin my reputation. Given that the lecturer has opened a window period and an option of joining ethics classes, I will ensure that I correct the mistake at this point. I will also have discussion with the lecturer and write a letter to the academic affairs explaining the action with the view of proving my innocence. When I graduate, I will be able to get a letter from the faculty explaining that I appreciated that my action was unethical but have since changed.
