My Interest in Accounting - Personal Statement Example

Personal ment Prompt My interest in Accounting started when I was in college. I excelled exemplary in businessand core mathematics units. The concepts I have learnt in Business Studies were very common in day to day life hence fueling my desire. I’ve passionately read many books in business to gain more and more of these concepts. This only cemented my desire to pursue Accounting at university level. My parents have lived their active part of their life doing business. From my early years, till now, both my parents were engaged in one form on a business or another. The proceeds from the enterprise have been a pillar to everything we have now even the education I have today. I needed to have practical skills in accounting to manage my parents’ estates. When I enrolled for my college education, I was privileged to be exposed to the full range of accounting courses, all of which as expected solidified and reinforced my intense interest in Accounting. I’ve also had a chance to study related course in Accounting such as basic calculus. This widened my view in accounting, and the mathematics skills requisite for accounting. Besides, I also studied a number of subjects in social science, and they have been both enlightening and enjoyable, providing me with a new and unique perspective of the things of the world. In the realm of Accounting, I have developed special interest in the field of finance and risk management and have even undergone training on graduate courses relating to Financial Accounting. In our class, I’m the sole students who have attended elective courses in Accounting beyond the ones provided by the school department. At year two of my study, I was selected for a foreign exchange program in China where I worked with Samsung center. I was exposed to a range of practical skills. Another particular interest I have is record keeping and financial analysis. I’m currently the accountant of SBCC Volunteer and Charity club, one of the vibrant clubs in college. They have chosen me for my adept skills in Accounting and book keeping. The post in the club provides me with practical knowledge and skills in Accounting. In fact, they already have a suggestion for me to become the patron of the club after I graduate from school. I will consider that application, though; my great plans are to head undergraduate work towards the attainment of a degree in Accounting. After I earn my graduate degree in Accounting, I will look forward to starting a graduate course in the financial management. Perhaps, I would consider a job at that level. After a few years of work, I would look forward to earning my Ph.D in some units of Accounting. Later, my desire would be to work in research and development for big companies such as Google. It is through Research and Design that I believe I can shape the world differently through my theoretical background in Accounting, the skills and creativity of the researcher. Prompt 2 Naturally, I consider myself talented. I have scores of co-curricular activities that have kept me occupied during my free time. I acquired these skills when I was in primary school. I learned how to play piano that made the music club hire my expertise during the music festival performances. My desire never stopped, right now, I’m learning how to play a Guzheng, a Chinese musical instrument, and I can confidently say the skills serve me as good. Besides, I’m good at the field. I play football, and I consider myself a natural defender. These skills I have acquired outside the world of academics make me feel complete and confidence. In terms of work and relationship at the workplace, I am an excellent team player. The skills that have been imparted right from my primary education and the experiences acquired in life has enabled me handle and work with people from varied characters. I have leadership skills in me. I have been a leader right from high school. I was the school time keeper. My teachers liked my diligence in handling issue, and I was rewarded for that. Back in high school, I headed the school music club. As I had mentioned earlier, music has been my part-time activity. During my reign as the club captain, we managed to be awarded the best musical instrument award for two consecutive years. In college, the leadership skills coupled with my immense interest in Accounting have served me to be an accountant at the Charity Club. I am free and open to ideas, and my desire to learn I can say is quite adequate. In class, I endeavor to learn from my peers and tutors. I also contribute to what I am conversant with to help other learners besides, solidifying my knowledge. This has been a valuable asset to me, and most of my seniors say I am a good public speaker. In fact, I like debating in matters I have an interest. Sharing my point of view and hearing others people perspective propels my desire to explore more on the subject. I am well informed of the superb reputation of your school, and the information I have gathered from the school website, alumni and continuing students have served my great interest in attending your school. I am aware of the excellent cream of qualified lecturers at your faculty, and I believe I’ll be able to derive my best from their many years of teaching. I also recognize the modernized IT which will make easy for my research. Besides, your school is founded on a strong philosophy of academic honesty and urge to venture in research. Most of the research conducted by students the school mentored has been part of the academic knowledge currently being use in the field. Majority of the academicians owe their skills to training in school. I trust you will offer me the privilege to fine tune my skills in Accounting at your reputable institution. Additional Comment I profess to Christian faith. My parents were very staunch catholic believers, and I have grown in a catholic faith all my life. Nevertheless, I respect other dominions, and religion has never been a challenge for me during schooling and working with others who subscribe to a different religion. I understand yours school upholds and recognize the essence of freedom of worship. In our family, we all have been fond of learning and particularly exploring new areas. This explains why one of our members of the family is an Electrical Engineer while the other is a Nurse. We have grown exposed to many issues that later generated special and varied interest. In my academic level, I found my interest swayed as it would be in such a family and I was unable to focus well on some units in college which explains my poor performance in a number of subjects as shown in my academic transcripts. Despite this, I believe that was a failure to recognize my interests and University of California would give me this chance to correct on my poor academic record in some units.
