nassar alnassar Annemarie Frohnhoefer ENGL 201- 28 3 June Why safety education is important for engineers Introduction: Safety education is really important for engineers. This reaches will discusses Engineers preliminary s. might end their life while there are working caused by many reasons of safety. Each one of employers should responsible to his section because maybe gets explosions and on his neck men and women might their children called fatherless and motherless just because you did not give the misation full attention. According to the article “Safety Meeting Topics (Bilingual)”,”In California, all employers must have an Injury and Illness Prevention Program that includes employee training in safe work practices. And, for the construction and tunneling industries, there are specific requirements for "tailgate" safety meetings. To enable its insured employers to fulfill their workplace safety and health training responsibilities, State Fund has produced an extensive selection of Safety Meeting Topics in English with Spanish translations. The informative topics are intended for use in on-the-job safety training meetings (best held at the beginning of the shift, right after lunch, or after a break) to educate employees on potential hazards and prevent work-related injuries and illnesses. A record of the safety meeting - stating the date, safety topic, attendees, and recommendations or additional comments - should be kept on file for the duration of each attendees employment. To do so, for those requirements that the article talked about it just the education gives knowledge about safety class to reduce the problems it might happen in factories. There is one aspect engineers need to learn which is safety class is and how it is important. Pitt, Martin. "How Best To Teach Safety?." TCE: The Chemical Engineer 849 (2012): 42-43. Academic Search Complete. Web. 1 June 2014 In his article “How best to teach safety,” Martin Pitt presents suggestions on how to effectively teach safety to engineering students. And it says that teaching safety effectively takes a teacher who knows the technical sides of each course, plus few other matters such as law and human behavior. In this article, the author discusses the experience in Britain of teaching safety to engineers, and the engineers who have experiences of safety volunteer to go back to university to teach. The author’s audiences are engineer students, governments, and universities as well. That’s how the author focuses on bringing engineers who have experiences on safety education to go back to the university to teach fresh engineer students on safety education. Moreover, that helps educating new engineer students on the safety and how to be safe inside the atmosphere of manufacturing engineers and the other fields of engineers. Martin Pitt points out the importance of educating engineer students the safety environment, as well as on the other side of law and human matters. The author says “With experience comes knowledge. But what if the experience is missing?” on his question, the author points out the main idea of the best way to teach safety to engineers. And then he answers that with “To teach safety effectively you have to know all of the technical side of the course plus some other matters. Thus a safety teacher is a major generalist.” Martin Pitt was being harsh in his article when he first brings a serious question, and was straight in his topic while trying to enforce engineers who have experiences to go back to their universities to teach new engineer students the safety environment inside the fields of engineers and factories as well. Martin Pitt has really good sources and reputation, since he is the Coordinator of Design Teaching at Sheffield University. The reason why I brought his article, because I believe that his voice should be heard to all engineers and the fields on any type of engineering. While reading the article, I did not find any gaps in his article, since his article focuses on the safety education and how it is important on the fields of engineers. At field of manufacturing engineering, there are some certain gaps that needed to be fill into the field by itself. These gaps come out from the safety environmental in manufactures. According to the article “Ethics Teaching in Undergraduate Engineering Education” written by Colby, Anne; there are ethics that’s need to be taught in the education of engineers for undergraduate students. This source shows how to develop ethics through education by analyzing strengths and weaknesses. The source focuses and case studies that have been done based on site visits on undergraduate engineering fields such as mechanical, electrical at “seven universities or engineering schools in the U.S”. In the same way, the article “Integration of Behavior-Safety Programme into Engineering Laboratories and Workshops Conceptually”, have the same concepts of the previous article mentioned in the first paragraph. Moreover, the second article focuses on the ethics and safety behavior inside workshops and labs. It also talks about developing a safety training model with using “behavior-based safety training programme into laboratories for young adults, during their tertiary education.” On the field of manufacturing engineering, engineers needs to know about risks and responsibilities on factories. And this leads us to teach and educate students and engineers to be aware from issues they might face in their engineer fields. Education is really important on this point. On the article “Site Safety: Rights, Risks and Responsibilities”, it discusses how workers have responsibilities, rights and risk they have to know to keep them away from getting injured. Otherwise, on the article it discusses some of the risks workers might have, such as not wearing hats on site of construction. Since education is important because it would help those workers to be aware of risks, and have them being safe while working on such fields. Since manufacturing engineers have risks in their fields of work or labor, one of the risks is maintaining their health. Because on site of constructions and industry fields, having machines which workers work on, those machines may or may not have impacts and effects on workers and employees. On the article “Engineering and Public Health at CDC” it talks about solving human problems by using the theory of technical knowledge based on the scientific application of engineering by applying “science, technology, mathematics, and practical experience”. However, one of the ways the author talks about of maintaining employee’s health is by testing lung-function.
In today’s world, you cannot succeed until you make mistakes and then learn from your mistakes. However, at the engineering field, you can make mistakes, but you need to learn from them to avoid making them back again. As of the article “Lessons learned from accidents involving chemical reactions during maintenance and cleaning operations” the author brings examples of mistakes that have been made on the engineer fields and how to learn from them to avoid doing so. At the field of engineering in workplaces, there has to be some safety and maintaining them. Moreover, on the article “Maintaining safety in the workplace” accidents should not be a part of any operational procedure but diminishing awareness of the potential hazards of performing maintenance is making it part of the routine. Thus, those articles above shows two points of views that safety is important on engineer fields and factories as well. Moreover, on educating engineers in the safety to avoid mistakes in the workplace. However, to be safe in the workplace, there has to be some source of education on engineer fields. According to the article, “chemical engineer in the T2 Laboratories explosion. (Despite the name, this was an industrial plant in which a9 mreactor exploded because of a runaway reaction, killing four and injuring 32.) The Chemical Safety Board in its 2009". Society blame the university who let chemical engineer graduated has lack of the safety classes. Some people have not thought about explorations losses we might have life, money and industrial pollution. Moreover, explorations are caused by the lack of safety education. Companies should stop ignoring it. People die every year, which requires us to take a look at the worst explosions. Some of the reasons that operates not wearing safety shoes or adherence. Here the role of universities to teach engineers safety classes, force them to take it so serious also, give students the ways how to reduce the chances of doing mistakes. As the article “An integrated approach to safety and security based on systems theory”, it talked about safety systems reducing problems might have. Also, it is forcing safety constraints on system behavior. I support William Young ideas because he described that there are strategies high levels to reduce mistakes in industries and this is all massage to all engineers. Also, an example of site safety issues that might happen, a worker may forget to wear a hat while working onsite, a rock, or any type of equipment could fall off and hit his/her head and put him/her concussion which leads to having risks at such fields in construction, or onsite. Teaching and educating engineers students would help reducing those accidents and ensuring a safety environment at work. According to the article “Site Safety Rights, Risks and Responsibilities”, NOSH report that shows construction injuries account for 15 present of workers compensation costs. However, A contractor is responsible on safety on site thus a contractor must have the knowledge and education on safety environment to insure that workers be safe while on duty. I totally agree with author since he brings information about who’s been responsible on site safety. In the end,
