UNLV Application Questions Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to address this challenge. Include whether you turned to anyone in facing the challenge, the role the person played, and what you learned about yourself. Some of the most significant challenges that I have faced in life include my comprehension levels related with completing tasks at the college. The challenges have been immensely distinct and hence have more or less made me feel that I need to do more in terms of understanding things on my own. I have played different roles time and again, which is an aspect that fulfills my personality with the needed characteristics and traits that I require. I have learned that in order to showcase the true skills, one needs to take the challenges in a head-on fashion. This means that I have to be at ease with the difficulties that come my way and be ready for a number of factors which essentially happen on a day to day basis. One of the most pressing challenges was when I had to dedicate myself to studying quickly for the whole course. This was because I had shifted between colleges and the new college had covered the curriculum more than the earlier one. I learned that I had to make up for a number of lessons on my own, as well as take guidance and seek help from my teachers. One good thing was that they were very helpful and they made sure that I had all the notes on me beforehand. But then again, this demanded immense concentration and hard work on my part which is indeed a very difficult task to ask for. I played my role duly and worked my way through these difficult tasks in order to overcome the barriers to attain success. My learning was good during this while and I was able to acquire quite a few things on my own. I covered the lessons quickly and hence made solid ground within my class. This was a source of sheer happiness for me. 2. Explain what you have done to make your community a better place to live. Give examples of specific projects in which you have been involved over time. In order to make my community a better place to reside within, I have played my part at socializing with people on a regular basis. This has meant that I meet them on and off, and to talk to them about different projects and happenings. Same is the case with my college understanding levels, which is indeed a positive sign for acquiring new tangents within the community settings. I am of the belief that playing ones part within a community setting basically calls for appreciation because it gives credit to the ones who are doing their utmost and asks for the same from the ones who are unable to do on one context or the other. I have helped my colleagues to comprehend the nuances related with hospitality management because this is one field which has brought much satisfaction within my fore. It has made me who I am and hence the reason that I wish to pursue the same within the university as well. I have been involved in quite a few projects from time to time. One of these asked for playing my part within the college project where different hotel facilities and front office duties were analyzed. Another called for understanding how food and beverage principles were made use of. Then I also did my due within the tourism development concerns because these are essentially significant within the community building concerns as far as hospitality management realms are related. I am of the view that I have been able to showcase my real side within the community because my beliefs are based on a solid footing - I intend doing something worthwhile for everyone each day of my life. This is the reason why I heave a sigh of relief whenever I think of my input within the community development concerns and how I have done my bit to make it a better place to live for one and all. 3. Describe your experiences facing or witnessing discrimination. Tell us how you responded and what you learned from these experiences and how they have prepared you to contribute to the UNLV community. I have seen discrimination happening within my friends circle. This is because it is reality and can be witnessed anywhere, anytime of the day, without much reason and backing coming to its help. I have seen discrimination being meted out on to the best of people during different times. I have been discriminated against values which might be close to an individual but would not hold much significance within my eyes. I have seen people getting racially marginalized. I have seen them become the victims of stereotypes which are not of their own making. I have also experienced discrimination when I am with a person who is physically challenged. This made my heart weep because people can be very selfish at times and hurt is a small word under such situations and circumstances. I am of the opinion that discrimination takes its basis from the belief when an individual stops living his life and enters someone elses. This is a problem that has quite a few drastic consequences in the long run, and that too for all concerned. I responded to discrimination with a very strict attitude. I do not listen to people who stigmatize people based on one point or the other. I disapprove of any such feelings and emotions which come about due to discrimination. I learned that people should be stopped and forbidden from hurting others whenever they delve into discriminatory discussions. I have learned it as I have seen it along the way. These experiences have prepared me to be ready for the worst possible scenarios within my life as far as the future dimensions are concerned. This will essentially contribute to the UNLV community in the coming times and make me feel ready for countering any such hindrances that might arise. This is the basis of my proper learning regarding discrimination over the years. 4. Articulate the goals you have established for yourself and your efforts to accomplish these. Give at least one specific example that demonstrates your work ethic/diligence. I have set goals for myself and this has been done to make sure that I remain on track to achieve my end objectives. I have set my vision to attain new heights and to do things which have been left unexplored within my life domains. I have therefore established a work basis for myself which is bent upon doing something worthwhile for not only my personality but also the entire community in essence. My efforts will be driven with sheer persistence on my part to break new grounds and to touch newer skies in the future. I want to do tasks which will ignite interest in my personality and align myself with the goals and objectives. As far as my work ethic/diligence is concerned, I am destined to achieve success because I staunchly believe in following timelines and schedules. This is the reason why I focus on growth and development in the long run which essentially is a point of much advantage. My goals are therefore set upon achieving values and hierarchies which is slightly different to what others have in mind in this day and age. Also as an example, I shall quote an instance whereby I had to fulfill my role within community development once. It asked of me to complete a task which took up to 2 hours a day, for around 15 days’ time duration. Even though I was managing quite a few things and my work routines were jam-packed, I concentrated on achieving what I had promised with my community domains. In the end, I was able to play my due part by fulfilling the role which was a source of immense satisfaction and happiness on my part. I would like to continue this trend in the coming times as well so that this journey is a successful one as far as the future realms are concerned. Read More
