Decision to Pursue an MBA Degree a) Motivation for Pursuing an MBA Degree at this Point in Career In accordance with the present rapid development of global business environment owing to industrialization, it has been observed that professional courses have become a vital selection for the students in terms of career development. Moreover, the increasing pace of globalization has made it quite imperative especially for the graduates to learn new skills for developing their career. The major motivational factor behind pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is the prospect of attaining a substantial career growth as well as to learn adequate leadership skills to effectively handle different situations in a particular organization. According to the present day context, a majority of global marketers seek to employ newly minted MBAs. It has been observed that approximately 79% of global companies are looking for MBA graduates as has been identified by Graduate Management Association Council through surveying more than 800 organizations across the different regions (Korn, 2013). Therefore, it can be stated that the degree can significantly provide a considerable amount of opportunities to strengthen my career. The extensive knowledge, skills as well as management competencies involved within the various subject areas of MBA course can facilitate me to learn effective business skills and techniques to develop the strategies of a particular organization. The learnt skills would also enable me to take crucial decisions for the organization confidently at any situation which can be quite significant for the development of the organization in the long-term. b) Reason for Applying to Boston University to Acquire Health Sector MBA Degree Boston University (BU) can be considered as one of the leading management institutions, which provides a range of management related subject areas taught by a few renowned faculties. The institution offers full time MBA course through entailing different management fields and subject areas. Moreover, the professors and other faculties of the university have been recognized to be extremely skilled and competent along with possessing considerable experience in their respective fields (Boston University, “Graduate Programs”). I have selected to pursue Health Sector MBA from BU due to my level of experience and adequate skills in the respective subject area. I have two years of experience in the healthcare sector as a patient account administrator in the Partners Healthcare Inc. Boston, MA and as a medical biller/administrator in Two Brattle Center, P. C, Cambridge, MA. Due to possessing adequate knowledge and experience, the Health Sector MBA will be effective for me to apply my skills and competencies in the respective area. Moreover, the emerging growth prospects as well as the adequate number of opportunities prevailing in the healthcare sector can also be considered as among the major rational factors behind my decision of acquiring Health Sector MBA degree. It has further been observed that in recent times in the healthcare industry, the organizations are highly focused on achieving competitive advantage to sustain their position in the market. Therefore, due to this reason, it can be identified that a wide range of opportunities are present in the industry which can be significantly leveraged by acquiring adequate management knowledge particularly in the healthcare sector. Therefore, I have selected Health Sector MBA as my major study area which can leverage my skills and competencies to develop a well-built career in future. c) Plan to Leverage Professional and Academic Experiences to Achieve Post-MBA Career Goals The selection of Health Sector MBA as my major professional subject area is owing to the fact that the sector provides extensive opportunities to build a sustainable career. The present healthcare industry tends to offer numerous opportunities especially for the MBAs due to the requirement of effectively organizing, managing as well as operating various healthcare related products and services. With the emerging growth as well as sustainable positions attained by the global healthcare organizations, the prospects for obtaining job opportunities for management graduates would increase manifold. This is because these organizations would need to efficiently cope with the possible challenges as well as gain competitive advantages in the respective industry. Moreover, the companies operating in this industry further tend to employ the professional management graduates to strengthen their various administrative initiatives including decision making, new product development along with addressing various issues as well as discovering and developing the efficient practices which can enable these organizations to improve their existing performance (Boston University, “Health Sector MBA”). Therefore, the obtained adequate knowledge from the key subject area in the MBA program can effectively provide extensive support to achieve individual career goals. The contents of MBA program involve a range of management subjects that are highly essential in order to efficiently accomplish the desired goals and objectives. From the perspective of healthcare related subjects, the MBA program considerably incorporates different study approaches such as pharmaceutical operations, hospitals and health system, biotechnology, diagnostic processes, health information and technology along with many other related subjects. Moreover, due to the existence of effective experimental curriculum in the course of Health Sector MBA, it can be beneficial for the students to achieve their desired goals in the respective sector (Boston University, “Health Sector MBA”). 2. According to my experience in the healthcare sector, I had observed that maintaining integrity and truthfulness in the organizational process is quite essential for a manager to build a long-term sustainability within the marketplace. According to the present competitive scenario of the global healthcare environment, organizations tend to focus on relying upon integrity in order to avoid various external hazards in the global market. Moreover, the healthcare institutions have also been found to promote integrity and various ethical conducts in terms of performing their business operations in a particular business market. In relation to maintaining integrity, I have faced different challenges while I used to work as a supportive administrator in the healthcare industry. In various scenarios, I was significantly pressurized by a few of my senior executives to manipulate or malpractice with the database and records of the organization. However, I used to represent appropriate data and information to the management which had enabled the organization to make effective decisions. Moreover, in various cases, I had faced different influences which tested my resolve to maintain my integrity level within the workplace. However, in every moment I used to make decisions through maintaining integrity and loyalty towards my assigned job role. I would certainly aim to make the same decision again if I am given a chance as I value honesty and integrity. 3 Short Answers to Questions a. My colleagues would describe me as a loyal and hard working person. According to my own experience, I had faced certain dilemma concerning ethics and loyalty, in each moment I made decisions according to the organizational principles and guidelines. According to my own philosophy, I believe that integrity in the job role has greater significance in life and it also helps to act in the right manner. I regard honesty to be one of the most vital values in my life. It sets a particular framework within which a leader makes all the decisions. b. An interesting fact about me is that I am passionate about learning any new skills and sharing my learning with others which can enable me to efficiently handle various situations that might take place within the working environment. According to the present day context, a great passion towards fulfilling the assigned job related objectives is considered to be profoundly necessary for a leader in order to make decisions or accomplishing any task. However, I also believe that a higher degree of passion in a leader can highly motivate the workforce to willingly involve themselves during various difficult circumstances. d. The business or organizational leader I most admire is Steve Jobs because he was highly admired for his exceptional leadership capabilities. Steve Jobs was a well-known entrepreneur and inventor along with the Co-Founder, Chairman as well as the Chief Executive Officer of Apple Inc. The inspirational leadership style of Steve Jobs remarkably supported Apple to be recognized as one of the most successful brands in the global market. Moreover, the leader was also popular for his great endeavors regarding his views towards continuous learning and focusing on achieving goal oriented skills. With this concern, I would also like to be a successful leader through learning new managerial skills and techniques to effectively handle various intricate responsibilities prevailing in a healthcare organization along with enabling it attain greater heights in the competitive business environment.
