DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Leadership development program is essential for the production of great leaders within any organization. Many people rely on the success of a skilled leader to ensure that their organization is run smoothly. It is possible to have marginally competent people but a successful organization. This is because leadership is not a natural occurrence or inborn. Leadership is a character that is acquired through training. A person may be able to lead others but has to improve his skills by undergoing various trainings (Kellerman, 2000).
The Us Agency for international Development (USAID) is a body that helps in improving outcomes through strengthening health systems and integrated approach. The body has experienced many changes due to the involvement of technology. This is because the body needs to employ many different integrated facts about science and technology (Bridges, 2009). This is a worldwide organization has achieved continued success from all its stations in the world. This can be attributed to the excellent and quality management systems employed in the organizations. To ensure continued success, the managers have always organized developmental meetings for all leaders in the organization.
The organization has witnessed as immense leaders emerge out of the few that are trained, and have resulted to organizing training camps for training leaders. The success that has been achieved from the training camps has geared the management f the organization to develop a program known as the Training Future Leaders program. This program is funded by the USAIP organization and is experiencing immense success (Schein, 2004). It was started with the aim of providing academic scholarships and complementary leadership development opportunities among leaders. It is significant to note that the leaders who benefit from the program are mostly from the organization. This is because, as much as many people are willing to gain from it, most priorities are for members. For example, massive success has been experienced in the United States of America and the Near East because almost all leaders in USAID have been trained and are beneficiaries of the program.
Training future leaders program has the aim of producing national leaders who are at the forefront of every national policy. This can extend to even issues related to socio-economic development in the trainees’ home countries (Kopp, 2011). In the United States of America, the trained leaders are used to help in the strengthening of scholar ties in the different states. The purpose for training the leaders is to engage different people in community development initiatives, in their countries. Although they can choose, a place to apply their skills, it is advisable that they help in the community. This is because the organization that trained them provides services to the people regardless of their communities.
Another purpose of the program is to offer probable nationwide leaders with sophisticated, intellectual and convenient preparation in the fields of proficiency while strengthening their skills as leaders. This is achievable in many different ways, which include academic involvement of the leaders (Bridges, 2009). Each, scholar is advantaged to have both academic training and individualized leadership development. Lastly, the program ensures that the ties between the scholars are strengthened to ensure that there is maintenance in their specialized objectives. These ties are also as a way of improving the understanding of different cultures hence advancing in the ability of relating with others (Alvesson, 2002). The management provides the scholars with internships and chances to participate in professional development opportunities. In addition, each scholar’s program is incorporated with professional mentorship.
The scholars are supposed to learn different aspects and elements of high-quality leadership. They need to understand that leadership is the ability to have others willingly follow ones orders. After they are able to elaborate on this, they are trained on how to become a good leader. There are important elements that need to be tackled for a successful leadership-training program. The USAID organization ensures that these elements are well incorporated in the training. The scholars have to undergo proper training on all issues related to effective leadership. During the program, the scholars are not limited to understanding of the terms and the restrictive sense (maze, 2011). An effective leader has to practice integrity, dedication, magnanimity, humility, openness, creativity, fairness, assertiveness, and humor.
Scholars in the leadership-training program are taught ho to acquire these skills and various ways of developing better ones. The scholars are trained that intrinsic traits such as intelligence, good looks, and height are not necessary to become a leader. Leadership traits are cultivated and anyone is capable of acquiring them. In this training, scholars undergo sessions that incorporates a comprehensible understanding of leadership virtues. These virtues are applicable to individual requirements and differences between leadership and management (Kotter, 1996).
The training future leaders program takes into account the approach of people towards good leadership qualities. They ensure that the scholars are trained in relation to the advancement of the individuals concerned, instead of looking for strengths in individual character. The program ensures that the leaders are aware that while great leadership skills make one successful the vice versa is untrue. It is important to ensure that everyone understands those collective requirements are of greater importance than individual requirements. This enables leader to view things in the point of view of other individuals, hence avoids any misunderstandings (Bridges, 2009). The scholars in this training are under an organization that mostly serves the people hence the need for community training.
The trainers are provided with various teaching equipment, which are used to train the scholars as a whole. Technology has made the trainings quite easy since a single person can train hundreds of scholars. These trainings are successful because most of the trained personnel always deliver as desired in any field they are required to offer services (Kellerman, 2000). It is possible to have a few who have not achieved leadership skills but feedback from different people in the communities, prove that the training program is a success. The USAID organization has been able to reach too many people all over the world and the branches are under the leadership of their well-trained personnel. They have also helped the community by producing people who can lead in many ways. Scholars from the USAID trainings are of high quality since they are taught all possible elements of leadership.
